I won't be on the boards for a few days because I am going on a bus trip with one of the senior centers to the Grand Canyon. We are going to visit the West Rim, where the glass Skywalk is. Skywalk juts out over the canyon, 4,000 feet above the bottom. I hope to be able to see some nighttime stars, because it is too light where I live to see many stars.
I love to travel and take trips, even though the preparation for the trip is hard for me, due to the organization and planning required. But I make lots of lists, and they do help.
I'll see you all when I return!

Iris,
Have a great trip. I'm jealous. I love the Grand Canyon. Was there last about 4-5 years ago.
Be safe.
Enjoy!
Peace and Hope,
Lisa

I was there in 1962 at the age of 12. I bet it's changed a little.
Iris, be sure to pack your copy of 'Safety at the Grand Canyon or How I Learned the Hard Way' by Eileen Dover.

Iris, By now maybe you are on your return trip. I know I wrote a note. I think I forget to hit post.
I hope you are having a grand time. I was there before that viewing deck was built. I walked partway down the donkey trail shooting photos like mad. Finally it hit me, i should have finished the roll. No roll. I did the sunset and sunrise. Thought I'd be the only one up before light. There was a small, friendly group there.
Good memories.
Afterwards I toured Canyon de Chey.

I'm back from the Grand Canyon. I did not do Skywalk, because I took a helicopter trip instead, into the canyon. We landed just above the Colorado River and got out and walked about, looking at the layers of rock formations.
I came home with a cold and fever, so I'll be taking it easy for a few days.

Welcome back.
That helicopter ride sounds fabulous.
What a memory.
When I did an Elderhostel of the area so many years ago, rock formations were one of the things we studied. A new one had been found. I'd just retired from teaching and was disappointed I wouldn't be sharing the information with students.
Iris, you have shown all of us PED that we can still learn!!
Take care!

Jfkoc.
Indeed I did. I did the tour of the upper rim by myself. That night I stayed at the hotel there run by the native tribe. The towels were real towels, blue, as I recall, and so luxorious. The next day I went on a tour of the floor of the canyon, focused mainly on the ancient living sites. The group was small. Well worth the trip. I was there in the late 80s, so I've no idea what it's like now. It was most undeveloped and non-commercial at the time.
