I feel like an orphan again

My elderly cousin passed away.  She and my Mom were cousins, but seemed like sisters, so my cousin was like an aunt to me.  After my Mom died in 1992, my cousin became a second mom to me.  My Dad died in 1972.  My cousin was the person who knew my best in the world.  She was the only person in the family I looked to for guidance.  Now she is gone.  I feel like an orphan all over again.  I feel lost without her.  I am 64 years of age but it still feels bad to be an orphan.

My condolences on your recent loss. It is hard to lose someone who has been very important in our lives for so long. I am glad you had her to lean on all this time though. She sounds like she was a wonderful woman and that you greatly miss her. That alone feeling is very hard, as is grief. Gentle hugs to you.

I am sorry, Iris, for the loss of your cousin.  I find myself missing my mom and dad very much and just having the connection to an older relative who knows and shares your family history.  Out of 19 aunts and uncles, I have one uncle left who is 92 and I've become closer to him since my dad passed away.  He's sort of been a surrogate dad to me since my dad passed.  No matter how old we are, it hurts to lose those people in our life who share our history.

I only find comfort in believing that one day, everyone will be together again.  We still miss, always.  Bittersweet, I guess that is a true definition of life and love.

Take care, Iris, and I hope you can find comfort.

Hello Iris,

I just lost my husband not quite two months ago. I know the feeling of being alone, I have had to make so many decisions on behalf of  my husband and trying to keep my self going. Chin up dear lady, you'll find your way. Find your comfort and joy in life.

I'm sorry, Iris.  New losses. . .odd new times.  I'm sure loosing her also brought back afresh a lot of old loss, too.  We loose a little part of our history too. . . .
