I'm 54 and took care of my Mom for 6.5 years. My spouse was amazing and helped. Without him I don't know what would have happened.
Because my mother had no assets, I was able to receive payment from the State to care for her at home. It was a waiver program that saved the state money and my Mom from being in a nursing home. This started around 3 years ago. The first three years, however, I divested my retirement funds from 2 different companies. It was how I could take care of her at home for the first 3 years. Not a move I would recommend, but water under the bridge.
I am now ready to start working. Figuring out what I want to do.
Thanks for listening to my rant.

I am trying to decide if I should go back to work or not. I miss working, but with my heart, I am not sure if my dr will allow me. I would like to work part time, but I don't think that I will be able to keep my disability pay. It is a difficult decision.
