My neighbor's and my home's backyards face each other. I don't know him well, even though he and I have lived in the same homes for 21 years. Occasionally, we wave at each other when mowing our lawns. Today, I saw him stringing up Christmas tree lights on his backyard tree, something he's never done before. Now, DH's hospital bed is set up in the LR and so he can see outside. I decided to go outside to tell our neighbor about DH...Before I could get two words out, he told me he was putting up the lights so that my DH could enjoy the lights. I was so choked up with gratitude I could hardly get the words out to thank him. Yes, the little gestures of people are so appreciated.
Just wanted to share this.

I was sometimes overwhelmed by the extraordinary
kindnesses shown to DW and me, even from complete strangers. There is still
goodness in this world.

Thank you for sharing that; it is deeply touching. If you see the neighbor, let him know that all of us here are moved by his kindness and we hope that he has a lovely holiday season.
I can only imagine how much this has meant to you and I love the idea of your dear husband being able to look out with pleasure at the colored lights.

Such a caring person! He sounds like the kind of neighbor you could call upon in a middle of the night crisis. Enjoy the lights and the holidays with your DH.

Reading about the kindness of your neighbor also brought tears to my eyes. I think our emotions are so close to the surface that any bit of kindness brings the tears. What a wonderful, caring person he must be to think of putting the lights in the trees so your husband could enjoy them. Thank him for all of us, too.
