My Mom, Joanne, passed away June 22, 2012. She was 76 years old and had Dementia for about 8 years. Dad had taken care of her at home for most of that time but she lived the last year in a nursing home.

She was not only my Mom, but she was my best friend, my inspiration in everything that I am and everything that I want be...she was and always will be my hero!!

My Mom died on December 7, 2014 After a 7 year battle with FTD. It is right what they say.
"Love your parents and treat them with loving care. For you will only know their value when you see their empty chair."

I miss you Mom.

My mom, Rosalie, died at home on October 21, 2014. She was 91. She lived here in our home ten years. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in March 2011. She raised five daughters. We lived many places as a military family, but my mom taught us that our home was wherever her husband (our Dad) hangs his hat.

Her philosophy helps me now as I decide where to live next. My husband died two years ago. My two sons are in GA and CA. I know that wherever I live will be my home. It now will be my hat hanging there.

We all miss her very much and are grateful for her long and happy life.

earMy husband Richard transitioned in September, 2009, I took care of him at home until the end, He was so afraid to die until he got to see into Heaven three weeks before he transitioned. He could not believe the Love. He was no longer afraid. I wrote poems and blogged for two years and I wrote a book. It is an e book published in December, 2014. It is on Balboa Press and available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. Here is a poem I wrote on Allpoetry this morning for a contest about Alzheimer's and Dementia:

Goodbye and Goodbye Again

As each day passed the Light in your eyes faded.
Most days I was but a faded rose of days long ago,
A vague shadow in your mind that you couldn't quite catch.
The spark of recognition quickly extinguished and I was greeted with a polite smile.
In my heart each day was a sad parting.
Then the last goodbye on the day of your birth.
"Hurry Honey I see the Light, I have to go, Come Kiss me bye. I Love You."
Remembered one more time, a kiss and you were gone, skye2015

My mom. Beverly age 66 Early On Set AD diagnosed in 2006 passed away two weeks ago, Feb 15, 2015 from Boston area, MA.

My parents were married for 44 years and my dad took care of her everyday for 9 years at home where she died peacefully from refusing drink and food 10 days earlier.

Hearts are broken, but knowing she's at peace helps.

My Dad, Bill, passed away December 1, 2014 from cancer. It was very sudden, 10 days from diagnosis to his passing. He had been my Mom's caregiver for the 8 years she had been diagnosed with Dementia. The last year of her life she lived on the Alzheimer's Care Floor of a nursing home. Dad sat with her all day from morning til night, every day until she passed away. They were married 58 years, together 60; they were high school sweethearts.

I miss my Dad terribly. I read somewhere to a girl, a father is her first love. To a boy, a father is his first hero. I believe that is true. My Dad was my first love. He was the model to which I measured all my boyfriends. I looked up to him, he was my protector, he kept me safe from harm, he was my hero. The love that he shared with Mom inspired me to have that kind of love in my own life.

Today is the 3rd anniversary of my mother's passing on April 1, 2012. She was 70 years old and had suffered from full-blown dementia for about 6 years prior to her death. I was kneeling by her bed as she slipped away and my last word to her was "mommy", which I hadn't said since I was little.

I still haven't been able to scatter her ashes, no place seems special enough so I keep them with me. Not a day passes where I don't think of her, but I only cry on big days like today.

I miss her still, I don't expect that will ever end.

Mother: Rosemary Fuller, age 80, diagnosis: Alzheimer's. For most of her adult life she was a wife, mother and homemaker. After her children grew up, she also was a grade school secretary. She passed Aug 23, 2010. In her last few years of life she spoke a language that only she could understand. Then in her final week of life she once again spoke clearly. To my sister she said "I am so happy to see you though I don't know why". We laughed. To me, her last words were "Thank you".

This site was a God-send to me when Mom was sick and during his passing.

In January 2007 he had a traumatic brain injury that was significant enough to trigger an Alzheimer like dementia.

We were married 25 years.

April 24, 2014. My dear husband, Douglas Willis, physically left this world due to Alzheimers and Lewey Body dementia. Though he is gone physically, I find he has left so much of himself for me to treasure. His first grandchild will arrive this August and I know he is watching over her! This thread is so comforting because I have seen so many folks I have followed over the years and depended on for friendship and comfort.
Hugs and thanks to all
Barbara

Pauline Ruth Copple DeNatly

Born September 27, 1940, Passed away April 23, 2014, Age 73 years

Diagnosed with Alzheimer's in the summer of 2006, died of a heart attack and Alzheimer's combined. She joins her husband Douglass DeNatly, and leaves behind her 3 daughters, 2 sons, and 13 grandchildren. Its been just a little over a year for me, and its still pretty difficult not having her around. Everyday gets a little less difficult, and while I will always miss her, I am happy she doesn't have to suffer anymore.

Dear Dad:

Today marks the 3rd year of your passing. I remember that day so clearly as if it was yesterday. I wish I could have saved you and mom, both. I wish you could both send me a sign, even if in a dream. Give mom a hug and kiss for me, love you both.

My father, LaVerne Lewis, passed on April 8, 2014 from AzD/Dementia and liver failure. He was 84
That day was my 49th birthday and I spent the evening with him in his room at the ALF. I left him at 9:30 pm, and when I got home 30 minutes later I got the call that he had passed. I think he waited for me to leave so he himself could make his entrance into Heaven.

My mother, Shirley Lewis, passed on September 24, 2009 from congestive heart failure, C Dif, and kidney failure. She was 79.
That day was my niece's 33rd birthday.
My father noted after her passing that her mother, father, and brother all passed away at the age of 79.

Yes, my parents are the original LaVerne & Shirley before any TV show!
