Remembering where I place objects

I have been using a new technique to remember where I place objects.

It feels a bit silly at times.
I state aloud what I am doing.
"I am putting my keys in their usual place in the drawer."
"I am putting my coffee down on the side table."
"I am putting my hair band on my wrist."

Etc.

It seems to be helping me not do things mindlessly and remember what I am doing.

Does anyone else have techniques to help you navigate your way through the day memory-wise?

KawKaw, I use the same technique!  It really has helped.  It doesn't matter if it appears silly or odd to outsiders.  I decided that part of being a Dementia Pioneer was figuring out what I needed to do for myself, to make MY life better.  I'm grateful that there is such a technique that can help me.  None of the three cognitive rehabilitation therapists that I consulted over a four month period of time told me about this technique.  We have to learn on our own what helps us.  I'm glad you found this for yourself.
