A member suggested that I use aromatherapy for my arthritic knee pain.  Which essential oils would be useful for pain?

The section on massage with essential oils makes an important point: most essential oils have to be mixed with a carrier oil (such as almond oil) because a number of them can burn or irritate the skin when applied neat.

The effectiveness of using essential oils for arthritis may depend on the type and severity of arthritis.  My mother-in-law has severe osteoarthritis and the essential oils were not very effective (a small bit of relief for short periods of time).  I think they might help individuals with rheumatoid arthritis more. 

Thanks for responding so quickly, Lane.  I have some pure lavender essential oil that I brought back from Egypt; I also have jojoba oil to use as a carrier oil.  I'll try them both and see what happens.

For a year or more I’m using walker with chair.

I am sorry about to hear about your accident and getting lost.  Aromatherapy can help give a better sense of place and increase alertness and awareness.  My mother who had Alzheimer's disease recognized her home again.  

Some of the better essential oils to use via aromatherapy are rosemary, bay laurel, and lemon balm.  They can be smelled a few seconds under each nostril in the morning.
