Hello everyone, I wanted to share with you all who have lost someone to dementia.  I lost my Bubba (grandmother) On Feb 16, 2018.  She was diagnosed 10 years ago, very soon after my pap died.  I was "their kid." I was the closet to them both- even tho they had children.  A few years ago I wrote a poem for Bubba. I had it at the viewing and funeral.  I received a lot of comments of how nice it was.  My aunt suggested I submit it to an alzheimer's forum, which might help someone else going through the same thing.  Here is my poem: It is titled

My mind is but just a memory,

In my world I can't see, The hurt in your eyes and tears in your heart

When you look at me.

I know you love me dearly, for that will never change.

You have always been "my kid!"

Shopping, puzzles and cards we did play,

Helping you grow in the lady-like way.

Passing on traditions of holidays past,

I look into your eyes and wonder, how long is this going to last.

I remember you only for a second,

And it places a smile on your face.

My mind is but just a memory.

I'm still the same person who loves you dearly,

Even tho I don't remember your name.

-Melody Miller-

I hope some of you find a connection with my poem and having a loved one with Alzheimer's

Dear Pooh, thank you very much for sharing; it really touched me as I was very close to my sweet Grammie.  I continue to love her dearly and will miss her always.

Your relationship with your Bubba must also have been deeply special.  Weren't we fortunate to have that love in our lives.

Again, thank you.
