From Alzheimer's Daily News:

(Source: CBC News) - A new study suggests that high levels of a fat in the blood may increase the risk of developing Alzheimer's diseases.

In the study, which involved 99 older women free of dementia, researchers found that after nine years those who had the highest levels of the biomarker serum ceramide were 10 times more likely to develop Alzheimer's disease.

"In this population-based sample of older women, high serum ceramide levels were associated with an increased risk of all-cause dementia independent of age, blood glucose and body mass index," the study authors concluded.

"These findings suggest that high levels of serum ceramides increase the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease."
