Two comments to the negative.  In the past, Alzheimer's vaccines have often triggered dangerous inflammation problems in the brain.   These scientists claim their vaccine is safe (and it may be), but more evidence for this is probably needed.  Secondly, while amyloid plaques contribute to the oxidative damage in Alzheimer's disease it is not the sole cause (and probably not even the primary cause).  So likely even if you developed a vaccine to remove the plaques you would only slow down the progression of the disease.  Some antioxidants not only inhibit the formation and aggregation of the plaques, they treat the problem of oxidation itself both on their own and by partially restoring the brain's own antioxidant systems.  Scientists aren't on completely the wrong track, they just aren't entirely on the right track.

Another way to get to it is to do the following google search: Montreal Gazette potential treatment for Alzheimer's disease.

sandy

all the vaccine studies showed questionable results

the problem with all these studies in humans so far

is that they are done on more advanced patients

they may work better if they are used in patients who are

earlier on in the process

like you and i

a study thats to start soon will be treating a group in their

thirties who carry a gene for alzheimers who will eventually

get alzheimers in their forties

this study will probably give us some answers

mice studies are a place to start but human studies since

we are different give the answers if a treatment or medication works
