Lane:  please Google Holy herb and give us your take on it.  I learned about it on Medscape, but I don't know how to link you. You are a superb hyperlinker.

Hello Marta, it is so good to see your name, I have thought about you and wondered how you were doing.  Even though I live in SoCal, I had no knowledge about "holy herb," and so I took a look and what I found was simplisitic and I did not look further; for those who want to know just a bit of "light" information, here is the link for what I read:

When Lane comes along, I am sure he will find so much more information.  In the meantime, as said, it was lovely to see your name.

Take good care,

J.

Thank you, Jo.

My husband died at the age of 68 in November.

I continue to admire your work on these boards.

Marta

Dearest Marta, I am sorry to hear of the death of your husband, but also understand the dynamics that his life entailed at that point.

I am hoping that you are beginning to adjust to the new way of being and that all is going as well as can be for you.

I do not want to hijack this Thread, so shall sign off; but I do hope you keep in touch on the Forums when you can and are up to it; it is always good to hear from you and you have so much to offer.

With warmest thoughts being sent your way,

J.

My deepest condolences as well, Marta.  You looked after your husband so well.

I am glad that you are still here.  I appreciate both your and Jo's posts.

I have been reading some of the articles on Holy herb (Yerba santa) but have been having difficulties finding a mechanism, but I will try it again now.

One thing that I did notice is that this work is coming out of the Salk Institute which is also working on a better version (better absorbed) of curcumin as well as medicinal marijuana for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.  The institute says the main active component of Holy herb is sterubin.

These are two positive findings about sterubin: it "was surprisingly effective against cell death induced by hydrogen peroxide" and it "had potent anti-inflammatory activity in... microglia cells."  Both hydrogen peroxide and microglia triggered inflammation are problems during the early stages of Alzheimer's disease so may be sterubin is of some value then.  Two other possibilities exist beyond that: Holy herb contains other components that my help treat the disease later on or sterubin has other mechanisms of action but maybe further study is needed to determine whether either or both is true.
