Would anyone be kind enough to look at this theory on prion disease and that ALZ and other neurological illnesses are contagious? Maybe it is bunk, I would not know but several people are discussing this on forum and I find it odd that I am aware of a few couples who both developed ALZ within a year of each other.

 from discussion at above link:

"If there is no difference between CJD and Alzheimer’s disease, we are making many mistakes on many levels. I argue that a deadly prion is a deadly prion and there is no difference between any prion disease in any mammal. Any difference in symptoms and speed of decline is due to the mutation of the prion involved, diet and genetics of the victim. Therefore, it’s time to reform many protocols to safeguard health facilities, communities, caregivers and entire watersheds.

To make a complex story short, prion disease is unstoppable and the pathogen spreads through bodily fluids and cell tissue. Prions linger in the environment, homes, hospitals, nursing homes, dental offices and many other places infinitely. They migrate, mutate and multiply with unparalleled efficiency. Prions defy all attempts at sterilization and inactivation. People and animals with prion disease represent an environmental nightmare.

Prions mutate as they move through the food chain, which puts animals at the top of the food chain, including humans, at greater risk. In fact, prions discharged from humans are much more voracious than those discharged from other animals. As such, we are recycling the pathogen that causes Alzheimer’s right back into our food and water via biosolids and reused water. We’re dumping these killer proteins on parks, golf courses, ski areas and school grounds."

"Spreading sewage sludge, biosolids, and reclaimed wastewater anywhere is a risk. Dumping them directly into our food and water is reckless, incompetent and criminal. We’re dumping prions into our lifecycle by the trainloads daily. Every nation is guilty.

To be precise, people with Alzheimer’s or Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease have used every sewage system in the world for years, which means that these systems all are hopelessly contaminated with prions. The problem intensifies with the addition of new prions and the exponential growth of existing ones in the system. Sewage from hospitals, nursing homes, slaughterhouses, morgues, mortuaries, veterinarians and other high-risk places enters the same sewage system.

The condensed sludge from all of these places is then dumped on our farms and ranches by the truckload. Plastic packaging and other large items are often visible in this waste, which means that treatment is extremely minimal. If the Pope waved his hand over the sewage, it would likely receive better treatment than what we see today. Nothing stops a prion, but you would hope that billions of dollars of wastewater treatment would at least take out pill bottles, syringes, needles and used prophylactics."

I am posting this because I think of my children and grandchildren and 7 generations hence. The fear of ALZ and other neurological diseases may push people to consider other causes, to understand this younger onset epidemic is an epidemic with cause, and stop the practices of profit driven food farming and pharmaceutical development from being exempt from the damage done.

I can barely figure out to dress in cold weather, all I  can do is type and hope someone asks some questions of people who are in apposition to get actions going.

Copper and zinc by increasing hydrogen peroxide appear to change helpful prion proteins into damaging prion proteins.  But in Alzheimer's disease, copper and zinc are entombed in amyloid plaques which stops the production of hydrogen peroxide and may stop Alzheimer's from becoming another prion disease.

Alzheimer's is not an infectious disease like prion diseases.

And here is another interesting connection: ferulic acid which removes copper and zinc and which scavenges the oxidant peroxynitrite can potentially be used to treat both prion diseases and several forms of dementia.

One big mostly unanswered question is which environmental toxins and other pollutants contribute to neurodegenerative diseases.
