The glucose and gum disease I knew about and should have know DDT was part of the problem too. My parents grew up in Port Arthur, Texas which is very close to Louisiana. My dad said the drainage systems in those days were so bad that you could literally slap your arms in the summer after a rain and you would kill sometimes a dozen or more mosquitos. He said when they were playing outside they use to love to run behind the spray trucks as they were driving down the street. Scary.

Interesting and sad. This was all too common when I was young. We still have not fully come to terms with how the indiscriminate use and application of pesticides and herbicides have affected human health.
