Ode to a Towel.... a poem about the role towels seem to play in my mother's life

(from the Archives)

Soft and worn, faded and blue
You represent all the life I once knew
My life was so full, it was precious and dear
I have no idea how I ended up here.

Was I wrong, did I stray, did I hurt someone along the way
That’s how I feel when I hold you each day.
There were things in my life I thought would never leave
Now I search and I cry; I fight just to breathe

The memories are there buried so deep
Thank God I can escape at least when asleep
A new day comes and I awake to the same
I’m thankful at least I still know my name…

O towel you’re here, you comfort me so
You help me recall the few things I still know
Where my life went, where my loved ones might be
I pray every day that they’re coming for me.

We could leave you know, just walk right away
Or maybe it would be best to wait for Mama today.
She’ll come, you’ll see, to get you and me
Then life will be sweet just the way it should be.

You, towel, and me
with people who love us so near
Worn, blue, and faded…. I’m happy you’re here.
