Something tells me that both patient and care-giver would appreciate adding that word to their vocabulary.

Not that I'll remember it!

when I read it's definition I thought it explains very well how I feel sometimes and I was sure someone else could relate....I wonder if my husband would understand it on a good day.  I also shared it because I will forget what it was exactly or where I saw it.

Thank you Quits!

There is that sorrow that is always just under the surface for me.  Saudade.  It hit particularly hard on Friday.  I filled out a DNR for my DH.  I've known for months I would do this.  My head is on board.  In fact, my heart is on board.  Was surprised at the tears that surfaced though.  Another trigger for saudade.  Another acknowledgement that though much has been gained, much has also been lost.  And sometimes that sense of loss is hard to see past.

Blessings to you, Cynthia

Thanks Quits,  for sharing the word saudade  as well as the meaning and feeling behind it.   I want to share it with my widowed sister.  I know she will  understand  the word and I hope she will understand that those of us who still have our mates with us physically  can comprehend the full meaning  of saudade.             Susie A

Sounds to me like saudade is another word for the human spirit. A yearning for the human spirit. Which is easily accomplished. By yearning. By wishing. By loving. --Jim
