"The mind is it's own place it itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven" is a quote from Dante, "Paradise  Lost"

But what happens when your mind becomes short circuited and things don't work or conclusions drawn as they used to.  It's the pits.  It's terrible and confusing. However, as long as we can choose to put on our clothes in the morning, or choosing a cold or hot drink,,,,, we still can make decisions, and we can choose no matter how hard or how different or how confusing it is, we can choose with that same dysfunctional mind to make that day that moment a good place to live.

We still can choose the fate of that day,, and leave the tomorrows forgotten.

Yes, we forget the present and past. lets not dwell on the fears of tomorrow.

Forget tomorrow.

I know the facts.  The fact is Alzheimer's is incurable.  The reality is things will only get worse.  There is another fact. This day can be cured and productive today.  Recently I read a statement from I believe the Alzheimer's foundation about leaving a legacy. My first thought was how absurd.  My productive days are gone and a chance for a legacy is over.

But now my question is what will those around me remember me as.  That guy who sat in a chair and stared off into space. Or, that guy who sat in that chair and stated off into space, and then would get up and do something anything that would leave a fond memory for themselves and myself a legacy of that day.

When I found this board I began to write again so please excuse my excessive posts. I'm only trying to do this day, and maybe do something constructive

Yes, we choose how we respond. Thank you for this encouragement.

bTuma 6 -

LOVE the Dante reference. I have been thinking about this too. As much as I try to get caregivers to learn the ropes in making a happy home for all of us, I do know I still can learn to temper my own reactions and responses, and to remember to say SORRY, and THANK YOU.

Very well said, appreciate the literary minds on this boards, all the great writers, many who do not realize how fabulous their posts are.

Yours is deep and important. Thanks a lot.

I appreciate your writing and posting. Keep it up as it gives us all encouragement to continue to do something worthy with our good days. Writing is a gift and using it brings joy to so many others.

I agree with Alz+ that there are so many gifted writers on these message boards. It is such an encouragement to come and read.

God Bless, Paul

btuma6,

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and ideas.

We do make choices daily that effect our lives. We are doing the best we can. I do still get aggravated easily which is a real drag.  I'm constantly working on this.

We are lucky to have so many people who are willing to share their thoughts, feelings and ideas with us.

Take care.

Peace and Hope,

Lisa
