Red light therapy is a healing strategy that makes use of red tinted light
in order to stimulate the body's natural defense systems and bring
relief from various ailments. It's popularity has boomed with Planet Beach's Contempo Spa visitors because it produces fast results for people with a variety of skin issues.Sep 8, 2011
It is non-invasive treatment and does not contain ultraviolet rays.
Waves from the infrared spectrum to penetrate skin tissue to a depth of
up to 10 millimeters.
The Science
Red Light technology is based on
the benefits of exposing the skin to the Sun's renewing Red Rays. Red
Light Rays are the highest of the visible Light Rays. Red Light Skin
Rejuvenation accelerates skin healing by penetrating the bottom of the
skin's dermis layer and into the subcutaneous fatty layers. This
stimulates the production of collagen and elastin proteins, increasing
the skin's metabolism of healthy oxygen and nutritional molecules.
This gentle, yet extremely
effective treatment is also very beneficial as an anti-aging and skin
rejuvenation tool, aiding in fading sunspots, and hyper pigmentation by
stimulating the skin cells vitality and permeability. Red Light Full
Body Skin Rejuvenation is a non-invasive, non-surgical skin firming
alternative, helping maintain elasticity and firmness while refining its
texture and smoothing lines and wrinkles.

By now, you might be wondering if Beauty Angel red light therapy is
really suitable for everyone to try. The simple answer is that, yes,
this treatment is perfectly fine for every skin type, and it’s
considered harmless. However, if you’re pregnant, if you have been
diagnosed with low blood pressure, if you have a sensitivity to light,
if you are taking medications that make you more sensitive to light, or
if you have been diagnosed with epilepsy, red light therapy isn’t
appropriate for you.
How it works
RLT exposes the body to low wavelength red light. Image credit: osseous, 2015
RLT is a straightforward procedure involving exposing the body to low
wavelength red light. Low-level laser light therapy is another name for
the process, though RLT may be more common.
This red light is natural and can penetrate deep into the skin, where the cells can absorb and use it.
As a study in the journal Seminars in Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery
notes, mitochondria in the skin cells can absorb these light particles.
This can help the cells produce more adenosine triphosphate, which is
the energy source for all cells.
Many experts attribute the potential positive benefits of RLT to this
function. With this extra energy, the cells may be able to respond
better to damage and rejuvenate themselves.

Light Lounge LED light therapy treatment at Auckland's The Facialist.
WE TRIED Light Lounge LED light therapy facial treatment
WE WENT TO The Facialist, City Works Depot, Auckland
WHAT IT'S FOR
Non-invasive skin rejuvenation, anti-ageing and sun damage. According
to The Facialist's website it promises to repair and rejuvenate the
skin, reduce lines and wrinkles, boost collagen production, improve skin
tone and texture, heals wounds faster, treats acne, dermatitis, eczema
and rosacea and encourages skin's production of hyaluronic acid
(hydration boosting).
SEAL OF APPROVAL
Katy Perry, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Lopez, Kate Hudson, Kelly Rowland
and the Kardashians are all known to regularly use LED light therapy. READ MORE: * This week we tried: Teeth whitening * This week we tried: Keratin smoothing treatment * This week we tried: Bespoke facial
PREP FACTOR Nothing - on arrival you're left to cream cleanse your skin so it's all clear to receive maximum benefit.
OUR EXPERIENCE
It has my vote! Not only was it fast and neither invasive or messy, it
was truly relaxing and I left feeling glowing and energised, inside and
out.
After cleansing your skin, you settle into a comfy chair, put your feet
up, close your eyes and totally relax for 20 minutes while the LED
panels do their thing.
PAIN FACTOR Definitely
no pain. Your eyes may take a moment to adjust to the very bright light
even through closed lids, but after that it's just lovely and warm,
something like lying on a tropical beach...
PLEASURE FACTOR
As above, it's a bit like taking a mini break on the beach but just for
your face and without the evil UV rays. Overall it was just a lovely
experience, everything felt clean, fresh, restful and professional.
OUR VERDICT
I genuinely felt great and that I could see a change in my skin
straight away - a bit of radiance and smoothness, but I was surprised to
also feel more energetic and happy.
BOOK IT IN IF You're wanting an immediate pep up for your skin and your mood.
BUT KEEP IN MIND
It's most effective with regular use - I felt like the effects from
just one initial session probably only lasted about 24 hours, but skin
therapist Ashleigh recommends going as often as possible as the benefits
grow with each go.
EXPECT TO PAY
$75 for a one-off session or $500 for ten sessions to be used within
six months. You can also sign up for monthly memberships starting at
$225. They're currently running an introductory offer for three sessions
at $99, to be used in a two-week period.
YOU CAN VISIT The Facialist, located in Auckland's CityWorks Depot, or find out more online here.

If red light therapy can improve someone skin this much, by improving blood flow, would that better bloodflow then not also benefit the brain?
If you be willing to plump up your skin cells, and it certainly appear to work, when early
studies show you can improve bloodflow to brain cells, why not 'plump'
up your brain cells as well, particularly if you know they are dying.
If red light therapy is safe for your face, for headaches and sinusitis, why is it so terrifyingly dangerous on your skull?
Sure your going to get more refraction from bones and tissue in the skull, but some of it is getting through and its only done good things. If brain cells are dying because they don't have enough cellular energy, why not try something that gives those cells an energy boost.
Two companies using Near Infra Red light have shown improvements in all the areas listed below, and we happen to have some early evidence that it boosts bloodflow to the brain and reduces AD symptoms, with absolutely no side effects, why are nursing homes refusing to allow patients to try these personal wellness devices?
There is a long list of conditions that can benefit from MedX PBM
