Although I lost my father to AZ in 1996, I am the co-caregiver to my partner’s mother. The slow decline is sorrowful for me, but agonizing for her as she cares for the once vibrant ball of energy, to one now who exists, but does not really live. We care for her in our home, 6 years in, though also many years before that in assisted living facilities, when she was able to communicate, and live a semi normal life. We will continue to do so until she travels on. To that end, I am posting a poem written by my brother many years ago, but has been a comfort to me, especially every Christmas. I hope no-one is offended as I am of all religions, and faiths. For those of you who have lost loved ones to this dreaded disease, or walking that path, I hope it also brings you comfort:
