Some canvassers came to my door this afternoon, asking if I were a registered voter, will I vote in the election on April 2, and will I sign their petition. I used to be on top of all the political goings-on.
When it became harder for me to keep up, I just began voting my party's straight ticket. But then I began to see areas where I was not in agreement with my party. Frankly, now I feel like I don't really care who is running and what the issues are. And I feel bad about not caring.
I told the canvassers I will vote in the election. I've voted in every election held since I became 21, 40 years ago. I feel I have an obligation to vote, when so many of my forebears were forbidden to vote.
I told them I'm not going to sign anything, however. I don't know what I would be signing. I don't have the where-with-all to dissect a fine-print paper.
I will read the newspaper and the election booklet and make a decision the weekend before the election. I'll cast my vote, but it won't be the same as before.

I know exactly how you feel. I used to keep up with politics, never missed an election since I was 18. Now, I can't keep up and frankly I dont't trust anyone. They are all liars and deceivers. They all double talk and tell you what you want to hear.
Is there anyone out there I can trust?? I don't think so.
I just don't know what I will do this year about voting. But I feel I should vote. We are very lucky in this country. It's been a long road for freedom.
But, are we truly free?

When you sign a petition, you are we testing that I will be put on the bow at rural or the voters to decide. I am sorry this. I will sign any thing but something on the ballot and let the voters decide. Even if I am for or against it I will go with what a majority of voters decide. When you declare a particular party, you only get choices for that party in primary elections. And the big election comes everybody gets a choice of all parties. I don't read all the information on a particular candidate like I used to. I just go by their ads, and my gut feeling. But I still vote. I signed myself up for permanent absentee . This means that the ballot is mailed it to me with an envelope to mail in. You then have your choice of mailing it in or dropping it off in any polling place, defending on how you are feeling, election day. It is good that you still vote.

Thanks for reminding me, Steve, about absentee voting. My polling place gets changed every election. I can't keep up!

In my humble opinion, voting is VERY important and I feel lucky that I live in a state that only does voting by mail! I do know that it gets harder to keep up with all the issues and so on, so hat's off to those who still attempt to do it!
