Last night I attended a meeting at one of the local Senior Centers.  A woman came up to me and said, "I know you!" It turns out we had both attended a Caregiver Support Group about three years ago.  She recognized me, but I did not recognize her, but once she reminded me, I did remember her and the group.

I feel very uncomfortable when I don't recognize someone.  I know everyone's memory is better than mine.  It makes me not want to go out.  But I tell myself I have to get out, it's good for me.

Iris, did I understand you met her at a "caregiver's" support meeting?  She probably remembers you because there were not many attending that had any memory impairment.  I have had that happen to me.

You need to keep that in mind.  It's not a good enough reason to stay home!! You will have to come up with something else.

I have friends that don't have memory issues, and they don't recall people they have met.  Just remember that in today's fast paced lifestyle that is a curse for many.

It's okay.

Hi Iris,

And you obviously made a good impression on her that she came up and spoke to you.

And it happens to me frequenrtly. I notice, that recently, I'm having trouble recognizing people at a distance. Then when they closer I might recognize them, or they're a stranger.

I have AD. it's the way it is.

And you keep trying. Did you have a nice time? Will you return?

This was a meeting of the Hearing Loss Association.  It was well organized and well attended.  They offered assistive devices for use during the meeting.  This is a meeting of those who wear hearing aids or cochlear implants, not for the sign-language reading population.  They are different groups.  I have a hearing loss but I do not wear a hearing aid.

I probably will not go back, but not because the group was not fantastic and had a lot to offer.  I just don't have the energy to keep up with a lot of groups.
