To answer some questions about how the ALZConnected Administrators handle posts or threads that need to be edited, here are some points of clarification:

  • There are times when a post contains messaging that contains vulgarity, is attacking or offensive to others, or takes our posters in a direction that does not fit with the intent of ALZConnected as being a safe and supportive place for people to discuss issues in their lives related to dementia.
  • When posts contain this type of content, the Admin. Team will edit or delete posts and will email the poster to explain why his or her text was edited.
  • There are times when the path of conversation within a thread has become so heated that the Admin. Team will edit and delete posts but may need to lock the thread to prevent additional upsetting messages from being posted. When this happens, an explanatory message from the Admin. Team will appear at the bottom of the thread.
  • In rare circumstances, the first post in a thread provokes others to such an extent that the entire thread is deleted. This is very seldom done, and when it is, all of the posters in that thread are contacted as to why their posts were deleted. Because of the absence of the thread after this step is taken, no message from the Admin. Team appears. If any member's post in that thread is deleted but the poster is not contacted, please let us know and we will follow up to explain why the post was removed. In many cases, these deletions occur because once the offensive posts are removed, the remaining posts no longer make sense in the flow of conversation.
