I just watched this tonite. It is a documentary about the poet Edwin Honig dealing with Alzheimers. The cousin was the one filming this. It's on HBO right now, at least in my area it is.
It is a good film, but made me very sad and scared really. But no matter how sick he got he still had some amazing language, here and there. He also never seemed to have lost his sense of humor, even when the joke was on him.

I think someone posted a link about this on one of the boards.

There are many, many people who have Alzheimer's and lead a pleasant, if forgetful life.
On these boards, we here the horror stories about behavioral issues and dysfunctional families. That is NOT the norm. These people are not seeking our help because they are able to cope .
We can just hope that by taking the best care of ourselves as possible and by maintaining a positive mental outlook, we also will be among that majority.
Naomi Feil has written in her Validation Method books that the bad behavior exhibited by some is because they have unresolved issues in their lives. Might be true, but at that stage I doubt anyhing can bed done anyway.

I recorded the documentary on the poet - watched part of it. He seemed so relaxed. How I hope I travel that path, and if not, if I become very agitated and miserable may someone please find me some medicine that helps, prefer non pharmaceutical.
My skill set is declining, tried to post a forum topic on PETS and dementia and screwed it up so much my computer shut down. In for repairs, using husband's.
driving is going to end soon for me.
love the forums for now though.
yes, remind us of the people who do well and how do we find out more about them? Help alleviate our fears and dread!
