Dd197 posted about this website on the Spouse/Partner board.  I don't know anything about it but what is written on its site.

I hope someone on the Spouse/Partner board can let us know how this works out for them.

Iris, I didn't see anything on the site but ads. Music is important for those with dementia problems, especially music fro earlier years. When at all possible, they should be actively involved.

I still LOVE music.  Especially oldies!

If you of your LO loved music prior to Younger-Onset Dementia or any dementia, they probably still will.

Just don't over power them.

Peace and Hope,

Lisa

Here's a website that's free and you can listen to your favorite music and songs. Right now I'm listening to "I Think We're Alone Now"...now "Tossing and Turning all Night" is playing. It gives you choices for all genres of music:

I certainly know that music is soothing to DH.  I've always had a radio on in the kitchen area of the house.  It's on a Christian channel with very minimal commercials.  It's not on loud, per say, but background type of noise.  We listen to a lot of Pandora also.  Love that you can find any & everything on there.  I will say when DH is having a non-focusing day I notice he always has on soothing calm music.  He knows it helps him.  Music is a great mood elevator.

I just recently having mom's old favorites going non stop in her bedroom and in the living room. She isn't in the living room, but she walks through it. Also, when she was delusional and sitting and waiting for "them" to pick her up, I think it was a nice distraction for her, rather than focusing on them coming. I would ask her "what are you doing mom?".. Oh just listening to this music. I like it .

I have it on continuous play so it doesn't stop. At bedtime, I change it to stress relieve slow playing christian music. It plays all through the night. I have had her 3 years and this is new. She likes it so far and I feel good about it.

Thought I'd share this.  It tickles me to no end.  When we were cleaning out mom & dad's house there were many LP albums.  My parents loved listening & dancing to music.  Our son & daughter in law wanted the records.  They are both 32 years old.  They absolutely love the albums.  Daughter in law thinks Doris Day is "the bomb."  Which is good.  The other night they were dining in their dining room listening to Henry Mancini!!  When they were telling us about it I asked why did they think they enjoyed the music so much.  They both said it reminded them of my parents and wonderful memories, but mainly the music was calming. There you have it.  Two 32 year olds with highly suscessful jobs are choosing older music to calm them after stressful day at work.  I love that.

Ahhh, Henry Mancini. Got to get his album out and play it! Brings back memories of lost loves. Oh, if I could only go back to that time, but knowing what I know now!
