I went to see my Mom and Dad a while back. Mom's Dimentia is getting a lot worse. I'm her child, yet at times the care giver. But always "the little one." She is "the big one". How to keep that proper order, even as she needs my help . . . It was evening. Just she and I were in the den. I told her how scared I was to lose her. She said she would like to hug me. It felt a bit counter-intuitive, but I got up out my chair and I went over to the couch, and layed down and put my head in her lap. We cried, we laughed, we cried more, we stayed this way for a long time. Her words - "I could just stay like this with you, forever." I wrote the following the next day -
Always My Mom

In her arms, my head on her chest
A child once again - her loving caress
Never too old, to be her little girl
Scared and uncertain, tears all a whirl
Safe and held, soothed by her unyeilding love
Parent - Child forever, on earth, as Above
