I don't know if I am exhausted from doing so much more or if I have another UTI.

My Dad became more - frozen - it was harder for him to walk and he sat most days by the time he was diagnosed. But I don't recall him feeling or acting exhausted so much.

I stopped using the wet wipes and fear I did not clean well  enough this past week and have another UTI. Today I am taking D mannose and cranberry juice, forcing fluids, and am laid out in bed with chills and no fever.

My urine test strips show no blood.

There are often references to chronic fatigue in our histories. I have been dealing with what was once thought to be MS since 1992 with periods where I was so weak I crawled up the stairs to my bedroom. I improved enough to hold a job as a massage therapist 6 days a week for years. But since 2004 I have been incredibly tired for weeks at a time, unable to walk with dog.

What is the fatigue from? Is it related to ALZ? Maybe I just over did it because I felt able to do so much more this past week or so.

I hope not another UTI. I try to use wet toilet paper instead but not as efficient. I did not want to put used wipes in bag by toilet - maybe I will have to if not being clean is causing these recurrent infection.

My body is exhausted but my brain is still working good.

Is exhaustion a symptom /  result of ALZ?

t take mercury detox protocols afterwards. If you don't detox, the mercury stays in your body and continues to wreak havoc on red blood cells. Mercury binds to red blood cells so that the red blood cells cannot bring oxygen to other cells in the body causing chronic fatigue symptoms. See http://amalgam.org/education/scientific-evidenceresearch/results-removal-amalgam-fillings/ or

http://www.fda.gov/ohrms/dockets/dailys/02/Sep02/091602/80027dde.pdf

Regarding the UTI issue, have you considered a bidet seat to help wash? We have a Brondell 1000 toilet seat system so it has a heated seat and warm water to wash either front or back using its tankless hot water system. That is among the more expensive class of bidet seats. There are others that use a small tank that costs less such as SmartBidet 2000. Both of these you can order at Home Depot.

I came home from my doctor's appointment and had a sleep attack.  I don't just sleep, I pass out like I'm unconscious.  The smoke alarm could go off and I wouldn't hear it, or there could be an earthquake.  I have slept through both in the past.  It's not comfortable, knowing that you are so out of it when there might be an emergency.

As for you, exhaustion may be related to UTI or to lack of sleep from any cause or from something else.  If you do have a UTI, you will need antibiotics to treat it.  Does the urine look cloudy?  You can check with a clean, clear plastic cup.  Do not delay.  The D-mannose and cranberry juice are more for prevention than for treatment.

It is important to empty the  bladder completely.  You may try to double void.  Void once, then after about 30-60 seconds, void again, and attempt to push out any remaining urine.  Squeeze to empty your bladder!

You might try to make homemade wipes to use.  There are several easy do-it-yourself recipes on the internet.

You are still dealing with a disheveled house undergoing remodeling.  Are you getting enough uninterrupted sleep?  You need at least 8 hours, and probably more now.  Older adults have less restful sleep and need to compensate by practicing better sleep hygiene.  I need to remind myself of this all the time.

Please let me know how you are doing.

I used to be 90% exhausted.  A friend said it sounded like chronic fatigue syndrome.  Now I have problems getting any good sleep so have more delirium feelings than exhaustion.  I take b6 and b12 for energy.  Seems to help wellbeing.

TThere is proper way to wipe so look that up on web.  Not sure why you use wipes but feminine wipes may be a gentler product to use.  I try to keep my hands away from 'crotch' as to keep bacteria away.

MMy parent with dementia used to sleep as much as possible but I don't recall the words exhaustion or fatigue used.  Just tired.

Alz, try a diaper genie for used wet wipes and whatever.  I just bought one for my mother's bathroom.  It is large and looks like any other tall waste can with a foot pedal to open it.  Everything put in it is double sealed by the holding chamber and the lid, and there's no reason why regular bathroom waste like tissues and cotton balls can't go in there too.  I don't know what took me so long to think of it, because I use a similar systen for my cat litter.

As for fatigue, sometimes it can be emotional.  An unfinished project like house renovation is always a weight on my mind and body.

Too exhausted for long post but I can relate so much to this. Iris, I can take 3-4 hour coma- like naps when I'm off from work and then sleep through the night. I am not yet ready for daylight savings time and it's here already. Feeling like I really need the extra hour of sleep. I've suspected a UTI or maybe kidney infection over the past several weeks with dull achy pain in right side of lower back. I think I'm going to get one of those kits and rest up well over the weekend. Feel better alz+.

Steven, I had fatigue before I had old fillings out and gold put in my mouth 20 years ago. What you suggest seems reasonable except I have periods of regular energy.

A bidet is probably not going to happen.

*****

Unforgiven -The disposal can, no odor - sounds good.

I will look up making my own wet wipes - who knew?

******

Iris - my sleep has been pretty good, last night a straight 7 hours, seems resting yesterday helped. I don't have urgency, my urine is clear, no pain - looking for something to CURE made me think of UTI.

***

B 12 complex helps me a lot too.

*****

L lee and Iris - around the time I was swearing I also had the pass out sleep - in fact Keeper (my husband's code name) has says I still go out cold when I think I have been just day dreaming. Feels like an emergency system shut down rather than drifting to sleep.

I walked a mile today in sunshine with dog, snow almost gone. also we went shopping and I got to browse for a couple hours. Has been really good at home even though house still needs sorting out, and it is a burden mentally. Plus when the backsplash in kitchen went in they found wall damp, got news we need new roof.

could fatigue be early sign of ALZ? so many people report chronic fatigue previously.

jfkoc - I use TP and then moist TP, then used the wipe. I got a plastic bag for the wipes but think it iwas not a UTI this time.

appreciate all reminders from everyone.

Looks like shingles.

Is this because I need a new roof?  Half joking.

as bad as shingles seem, the anti viral drives me NUTS.

have to go in to doctor tomorrow to get refill and diagnosis.

that is what was causing this exhaustion. I do not want vaccination.

I slept last night, then had to go back to bed between 10 am until 3 pm.  I had built up a heavy sleep deprivation.  I don't like sleeping during the day.  I've got to get more sleep at night!

Iris - Sleep - GOOD.

I am setting myself up for a good sleep tonight. Have youtube 10 hour heavy rain sound video, if dog comes upstairs to bunk with me it knocks me out.

No lights, best pillow, favorite blanket, window cracked open.

Let there be sleep.

alz+ do you think there may be an end to my cursing phase? I sure hope so! It catches me off guard at the most inopportune moments such as, when I'm at work. I used to do what I called cursing therapy years back if I was alone or with a trusted friend when I was angry which helped me vent. Sometimes it was even funny and I would make up new curse words but this is out of control.

Yes it ends.

As you become aware of it happening, take light hearted approach. I called it my "pirate speech" when it came out in public.

something happened that made me very embarrassed, forgot what. Might have sworn after church in basement during coffee. Then I realized my husband almost never swears, never has.

I think I prayed about it, asked for help and very shortly after I tied my embarrassment and shame over using Jesus name as a curse word it stopped. I still swear when I want to as most people do but it was just pouring out of me.

Maybe you are close to the end of it. I did it for a year before I realized it. Try whispering it, anything to give another brain control some power.

I would say "I don't know why this is coming out of my mouth!" and laugh which was enough to make it not a big deal to others. I understand at work it must seem loud and crude. Use humor to deflect, or  sincerely apologize plus humor.

My favorite words were the F bomb and sh*t.  I swear less now than ever.

******

I do learn all the time to accommodate  ALZ, this was just another time of becoming aware and making light and learning control. The fact you want to stop means you will sooner than waiting for this phase to dry up.

I just found out cbd oil is legal and can be mail ordered. I wonder if it would stop the swearing? It is just hemp oil not sure of its potency but it might stop it. I can email you a link.

My Mom and I were looking for family graves in huge old cemetery and I got frustrated and was swearing LOUDLY amongst the angels and bouquets. Before diagnosis. I remember saying to her, "I don't know why this is happening!"

My Mom now says "Oh shit!" with real pride, at 96 she learned the power of lowering stress by proclamation.

I never understood cursing.  I didn't grow up with cursing.  I never heard cursing in public until I moved to CA in the 1970's.  I cover my ears if I have to.

Iris

in the south instead of swearing they smile and say "well bless your little heart!"

There is a reason people swear when they are in pain, it releases soothing chemicals and helps us withstand horrible difficulties. proven by science!

speaking of not swearing, went to clinic, yes I have shingles again, no one gets my joke about how I "was told we needed a new roof so I prayed about it and got shingles."

Keeper says when anyone DOES get my humor their stock goes WAY UP on my eyes.

True. L lee does not find it funny that these words are coming out of her mouth at work. I am not making light of it.

SHINGLES. and on anit viral which makes me edgy, for 7 days.

I did get the play on words about the roof and shingles, but I didn't know if it was a joke.  A belated Ha-ha!

For the past three or four years, I have been trying to get the shingles vaccination.  For some reason, the doctors are reluctant to do it in the office, and refer patients to local pharmacies.  I do not want a pharmacist to give me a shot.  I drove past our Health Department earlier today, perhaps I'll see if they can provide the shingles vaccination.  I heard it costs ~$250.

Since you have shingles, you'd better rest up, and let your immune system work on it.  Be careful to avoid touching your eyes!

I am not as exhausted as over the weekend, but I am chronically tired.  I have so many possible causes for fatigue, it's hard to pick just one.

My rheumatologist had suggested Calms Forte, a homeopathic sleeping aid.  I finally got some, and it seems to be helping me.

alz+, I hope your shingles outbreak is a mild one. I don't like the meds either. I do now get the joke, finally. Is your roof leaking? Mine is not yet leaking. Get some rest.

Iris, Apparently that shingles thing is a federal requirement. I certainly do not understand it. Like you, I would prefer an MD administer it.

I did allow my pharmacist to administer it. We had a talk before about side effects and the pharmacy is only a few blocks from the hospital. He also had available what was needed if I had an alarming reaction.  We both agreed that I would hang around a bit after the shot.

All worked well.

A mild case of shingles is tolerable. Severe cases or those endangering eyes or inner organs scare me. I prefer the possible side effects of the shot.

Mimi, apparently complications rise the older the person is.  So you were correct to get vaccinated.  I hope you get the protection it offers.

I am cranky but recovering.

Shingles stayed in one place. I have been resting and then swimming/workout or walking.

The house still needs work to get it cleaned out and I am still waiting for kitchen table which will also be my work table. I want to do crafts there, or sew.

Llee - yes the roof leaked behind new sheetrock! I saw this wet bulge in wall, carpenter said he would look at it, then said "new roof". I do think the shock of having to pay for roof collapsed my immune system. About time!

At least we are second in line for summer roofing and the carpenter specializes in roofs.
Also he is French Canadian and nice to look at, friendly, soft spoken, skilled, funny and married having 4th child in June !

Iris -Thanks for some getting my "joke" - I know what you meant when some one says something that could be funny, but not sure... that happens 90% of time I am making joke. People have always told  me my humor requires thinking in weird ways. Listened to an hour of Doug Stanhope on youtube last night - he is funny!

I feel like I could do a lot more to clean up house because of cbd brain, hard to lay down with fatigue but virus battle is still enforcing bed rest. Should take extra Chaga, forgot about that. Ah,going to walk dog, sun is out, then back to bed!

Love to everyone.

Fatigue can be from mental stress for many people, but my experience has been if I'm stressed I get tired and I mean pass out kind of tired.  The more stress I'm under the longer it takes me to recover.

About the wipes I find just a little hot water warms it up and gets rid of all the chemicals.  Well what ever you do good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

Muffin,

Welcome to the board.

There is a difference in physical exhaustion and mental exhaustion. One can recover and heal from physical exhaustion in a day or two depending on the level of exertion, but not so with mental exhaustion. When I'm physically exhausted I sleep deeply and it feels like a restful sleep. When I'm mentally exhausted I wake up tired and feeling like I need more sleep. Our immune systems are also more compromised with mental exhaustion.

I am SO sorry to hear about your roof Alz+; houses are like nagging money pits, they always need something,  but you will certainly be snug as a bug in a rug when it is all done.

I noticed your input regarding UTIs and the wet wipes issue.   Have you thought about getting a couple of those post-partum peri care wash bottles?   They have them on Amazon I believe and they are very inexpensive, I think less than $2.00 each and can be used over and over again.

They are soft plastic bottless just a little larger than those harder plastic mustard and ketchup holders in restaurants, BUT they are made of softer plastic and the spout pulls out and then closes up again.   The mustard/ketchup bottles would not work the same, so don't try.

One would put slightly warm water in the peri care bottle, and then after voiding or whenever, use it to dispense clean warm water over the area to wash.  You would then simply pat dry and be fresh as a daisy, (if a daisy had a peri area.)  Kind of like a bidet effect.

If wearing panty liners or Poise pads, be sure to change a couple of times or a few times a day if dry; and if wet, change them more frequently so as not to harbor bacteria in a warm moist place.

How has "Dog" been doing, he is such a faithful old friend.   Does he have favorite things to do?  I love dogs, but we no longer have one.  I borrow my son's three little ones and they drape themselves all over me; the closest I will ever get to a fur coat.  I love to look at their eyes when I am talking to them, they really take it all in and love us no matter what.  All they want to do is to please us and play nice; husbands could take lessons, but we'd have to keep them away from fire hydrants!

well, I have no modesty it seems from re-reading these posts!

shingles dried up, last day on anti viral my heart rhythm and speed began to get wacky and then the chills came back.

so had ONE DAY off the pills of feeling ok, still tired but ok. Then down hill again, now have sore throat and feel like I have some chronic draining issue. frustrated.

My thinking is much better on CBD oil and I am ready to do stuff again! I am also tired of chasing symptoms.

********

to clear up some of previous discussion about using wet wipes - I had 2 large babies and had to have everything rebuilt. This was in 1970's. Then I had post op infection that almost killed me. I have never been the same since and my repairs are worn out.

Not having issues because of not being clean or understanding how to keep clean.

********

I am run down. Need to get back on Chaga tea. Have sore throat. Some times I feel like nature is trying to wind up this rodeo by sending infections and now the flu? a cold?

sick of being sick, especially when my brain is doing so good.

**********

I understand how mercury could be a chronic poison, but I am not going to do anything more to get rid of it. I was a massage therapist for years and did every cleanse and detox known to human kind and most of it made me feel worse.

Got B - 12 complex and vitamin mineral drink, make a soup tomorrow if I can get out of bed. My last best friend called tonight and her cancer has now resulted in ascites which is causing her pain and making her weak - has to go to er every 5 days to get fluid drained from her abdomen.

My dog walked with us for years, she heard her voice on phone, cried when I hung up and Keeper has to take her out so she could run up to the house where she used to stay with her friend. Sad to see the house dark, she came home and got on bed with me.

At some point chasing symptoms gets to be a waste of time.

II understand the frustration of getting sick easily.  I am constantly washing my hands to avoid getting illness by touching my face.  I used to be able to sleep 3days and feel better so recently I made myself sleep more.  I think it helped.  Then I eat this gluten free 'seasoned stuffing'  that seems to give me small immune boost (made with arrowroot and navy beans), and I started eating more fried chicken (with skin on) that I found at grocery deli.  I gained weight but seem to feel immune stronger.  :/

II also seem to think the Marie Callender roasted turkey with mashed potatoes helped me.

II like to walk treadmill after take phosphatydal serine.

SSorry if I am repeating myself.

WWish you well.

I forgot I had written about my friend last night.

Want to say about the EXHAUSTION... I found swollen lymph nodes in my groin during shower after a swim. Called my doctor, will see her next week.

I think I do have some lingering infection draining my strength and energy. Maybe some thing fixable for a change?

********

medical people question: isn't having shingles better than a vaccination for future immunity? If having it and beating it doesn't give me immune boost against it, how could a vaccine?
