Today I went to the surgeon's office and it is determined that I have a pilonital cist and it needs to be cut out.. I do not have an idea of when I will be having surgery but I imagine it will be pretty soon.. It is only a day surgery so that is good.. I do not like the idea of being put under for it but I am sure it will be fine.. I will have my boyfriend with me for it and that is good.. I will let you know of when I will be having the surgery when I find out..

Ouch. Wishing you the best of luck. It's normally a very simple procedure that can be done in an ER. But you will be lucky to be put out. When a cyst is infected, local anesthetic isn't as effective (I watch those videos on YouTube) so you don't want to be awake.

Get a doughnut and whatever else you need beforehand. Also, prepare some meals and freeze them. Pilonidal cyst surgery may keep you off your feet for a few days. Also be sure to talk with the anesthesiologist before the surgery to inform about your memory loss. You don't want anesthesia to compound the problem.

I got a funny shaped doughnut for sitting on for when I have surgery, I took it out and am sitting on it now.. it is not like the old blow up ones.. This one is made out of rubber or soft plastic.. It is helping for me not to have my rear sitting on a hard wooden chair. I started thinking about when I first had one of these cysts and now this time and I realized that both times I have been sitting for hours on a hard wooden chair and am wondering if that is what caused this to begin with?

Prolonged sitting can result in pilonidal cysts. Julie, you might ask your doctor about how to avoid recurrence, because they can recur.

Julie - hope it is not too long before the pain stops. when I have had some minor surgery and even last colonoscopy I told the nurse, the surgeon, and the pinned a note to my chest about the anesthetic and alzheimer's.
I have not had any problems.
will be sending YOU lots of love and peace and hope you plan a lavish couple days of recovery. My skin breaks down from too much sitting or lying in bed.
will be waiting to hear you are doing good and healing up.
if it isn't one thing it's another! hugs

Julie you seem to be pretty relaxed about this. I imagine you are really looking forward to having this over.
I just HATE injections and blood drawing and IVs! I have trained myself to not faint anymore but I get so worked up over needles.
Do you have a plan for when you are home healing? Sending you love and a big smile.

Alz, I am not so relaxed about it really.. In some of my moments I think to myself that they are going to cut me open.. and I do not like the idea of that.. My plan is to not do too much for the first couple of days. I told my boyfriend that he will be cooking dinner for a while and I can not do what I usually do.. I won't be walking the loop like I usually do for a while.. They want me to go every three days to get my packing changed by someone who knows what they are doing.. This is much different that the last time I had this done. That surgeon wanted me to do it myself.

Julie, could your insurance possibly cover a nurse coming to your home to change bandage and packing? Can't wait until you get this over with Julie. Love & Prayers

llee, they are sending me to a wound specialist at the clinic I regularly go to.. I have to go there every 3 days for them to change the packing.. At least I have that this time where before when I had this done I had to change it myself every day.

Julie,
Do you have a hospital stay with the surgery? Hopefully, it is same day surgery and you can recoup in the comfort of your home. Sending you wishes and prayers for a speedy recovery.

I could be too optimistic about when I will get out because the last time I had this done I went in the morning and did not get out until evening and this time they called the cyst extensive...

Good that you have a date for surgery Julie. Try not to think too much about it now or you might trigger an anxiety attack. Just relax as much as possible and have everything already prepared that you need way before time to go. I hate rushing and fumbling around at the last minute.
So glad you get to recover at home. That will make such a big difference. Make sure you have everything prepared in your room too, so that when you get home you can reach everything you want and need from your bed and don't have to get up looking for things.
I know you will do well Julie. You are a tough cookie!

Ok. So I have a wound vac and I am not happy about it because I must wear it 24 hours a day.. They put in a carrying case that means I can be mobile if I need to be and I have that appointment with the new neuro come July 13th and I need to be used to this thing by then... Oh brother..

Timing sucks sometimes doesn't it. I know how you feel. I have to have another nose punch biopsy for skin cancer the day before my follow up visit with my neuro at UAB. That means I have to show up with a bandage on my nose. I hate it, but I have to do it. It took three months for the dermatologist to schedule this new biopsy. Seems we are always having to juggle appointments, procedures, etc... Oh well, we do what we have to do. I know it will all work out for the both of us Julie. Hang in there. Sending you a big hug and lots of love your way...

Thank you BlueSkies.. all the positive talk has helped me so much.. I can actually listen to it and heed it.. Yay!... I know they will show me how to use the vac at the hospital so I am going to have it charged and ready to go.

Everyone surgery went well. They did a spinal on me because of my athesma and MCI.. I was not looking forward to going completely under so this worked out well.. I am going to be resting today and tomorrow.. I will check in from time to time to see what is going on in the boards.. Much love to you all..
