Excessive wealth. That’s what I’m opposed to. It’s all right
to love money. But I’m for taking some of it away. From what might be called
the filthy rich. Let’s have significantly higher tax rates for millionaires and billionaires. Then
let’s use the proceeds for the common good. Yes. Redistribute the wealth. To make life better for the masses. I know. I know. This is a controversial topic.
With political overtones. But it needs to be addressed. Head-on. Imagine.
Wads of that money. Being put to good uses. Not least, dealing with the rampant
rise of diseases such as Alzheimer’s. Just a thought for the day. Makes me feel
good. --Jim

Jim - I hope there are a few more democrats with the same beliefs as you posted, because everytime another socialist speaks, it rallies the independents to the Republican side. With folks like the new congresswoman from NY, AOC, its going to be a huge landslide for Trump.
I dont agree with anything Pelosi believes in, but one thing she is not is stupid. She is a strong force in Congress and she wont allow AOC to ruin it for the democrats. Expect an attempt for AOC to be muzzled. But, I hope AOC resists because she sure makes it easy for the republicans.
Socialism has never worked, and nobody but a few far, far left folks want it.
Thank you to Bernie Sanders, AOC and a few others who were crazy enough to sign on in support of the far left extreme “Green deal”.
Ok, enough politics for me.

Im with you Ruth - Lets just have our own big party.
JFKOC - I dont think anyone has ever giving away as much money as Bill Gates has. Plus, almost all of his money will go to his highly charitable foundation when he dies. He is not leaving billions to his family.

I'm not much of a partying kind of guy anymore. For me, I consider it a good time when I can have my sandwich and half an apple in peace. If I can get my 2nd mug of coffee and a game of Monopoly, ( played against the computer, of course, ) then I'm good.

Don’t understand. Why some people. Take politics so seriously.
Even by playing politics. For their entire lives. You’d think they would have
something better to do. Imagine that. A lifetime in politics. What a
waste. Personally. I watch from the sidelines.
And tell myself. I’m above all that political tomfoolery. Though I once ran for
and got elected to the local school board. To see
what it would be like. And yes, it was entertaining. To dissect the minds. Of
would-be politicians at the grassroots level. Didn’t take long. For most of them to wise up.
And find more rewarding pursuits. Such
as going home to rake the leaves and shovel the snow. Sure beats shoveling political BS. --Jim

Politics not important? Politics run out government and there is no escaping how much control the government has. To not be concerned would, to me, be a form of self castration.

I’d be more concerned. If I could do something about it. Guess
I’ve been castrated. Ouch!!! That really hurts. They should have given me an anesthetic. --Jim

You mean you should have given yourself an anesthetic, Jim. But hey, no worries, because it probably happened during an out of body experience. Would that we all could have our surgeries that way - excepting, of course, the above mentioned self-castration. Ouch, indeed !

Going Thursday to the surgeon. After yelling "let me out" in the middle of the MRI last week I hope that if another one is essential that it can be out of body too.

Thanks, Chris. Correction made. You are a good editor. And a good mechanic, too. I'm sure. Yellow light came on the other day. Telling me I need to 'service stabilizer.' What's that all about? Am I unstable and in danger? I drive a 2007 Trailblazer. With 175,000 miles. A good vehicle. Love it. Wish you were nearby. I'd bring it over.

I’m more concerned about the state of the cosmos. Than about
politics. Read in New York Times, that there’s confusion over the ever-expanding
universe. A team of astronomers discovered that the universe is expanding at a
rate 9 percent faster than it used to. They wonder why. So am I. Thinking about
it all the time. Leaves no time for
politics. As my mind drifts into the Great Beyond. To the very end of the cosmos. Wondering if there’s a brick or
concrete wall there. Comparable to Trump's dream wall. --Jim

Doggone it Jim, you are unstable, and furthermore, you know it. I don't think anyone can take care of that after all this time. After all, you've been out of warranty for about the last 60 years or so. As for your Trailblazer though, from what I can see, that Stabilitrak system is a right royal pain. Have you had any symptoms crop up lately, such as cranking or starting ? Any sensation like someone has hit your rear bumper ? Have you recently had any service done that would have required disconnecting the battery ? Hint here : Almost any service under the hood can require that the battery be disconnected.

Been having dreams lately. Of having become a manipulator. A
liar, too. A con man. Anything to get my way. I’m not kidding. It’s me in those
dreams. Maybe I should call them nightmares. Makes me feel bad. That I have
turned to evil deeds. Yes, I’ve become a politician. I’ll do anything to get my
way. Even if it means no longer being me. I have lost the ability to be honest.
But then my conscience comes to the
forefront. And I wake. Scared silly and feeling anxious. That I may be the real
me. In that dream. A ruthless politician. Disguised as an honest man. --Jim

Chrisp, do you play Monopoly online or is it downloaded on your own computer?

Iris, I play it from a disc I bought many years ago that, interestingly enough, will still operate on my ( somewhat ) newer computer. I believe that the reason it has to have the disc installed is that this game was worked up for computers back in the day when hard drive space was at a premium...I believe this is showing my age, eh ?

Will someone please define socialism? Seems to me we use the word. Without being able to
define it. Give me a definition we ALL can accept. Bet you can't. Another sign. That we don't know what we are talking about. --Jim

For sure we won't all agree to a definition because the true agenda of Socialists is a secret.
Socialism is the redistribution of wealth to be given to those who didn't earn it nor do they deserve it. It is not a safety net for the infirmed or aged because Capitalism would cover that. It is the removal of incentives for work and advancement. It is the protection of misbehavior and self abuse. It is the government forcing people to finance programs that damage its own society. It's the waste of our resources in order to bankroll multiple bureaucracies and manufacturers of red tape. Ask a few people of their experiences with socialism in caring for loved ones with dementia.
The problem is. That we define each other in negative terms. Let's try for definitions in positive terms. The way each side would like to be defined. Objectively. Not subjectively. Fairly. Maybe neutral observers could give us an assist. --Jim

Ok, tell me which you would like to buy a bandaid or aspirin from... Walmart or your government?
I want a free band aid and a free aspirin. Is that asking for too much? --Jim

It actually was a feel good post, Underdog. There's no law saying everyone has to stick with whatever the original poster had in mind, and this thread was going nicely into a happy mish mash of pleasantness. What purpose was served by the Jim bashing ?

It must actually be that I have no understanding, although even in my ignorance, I believe I can tell when someone has accused me of not being honest. Thanks so much for yours.

Ok then I will ask you a forthright question...
Do you see what Jim is doing as creating and initiating conflict or not?
Now everyone will see if you are honest.

So, does this mean that if I agree that Jim creates and initiates conflict, that I am honest ? Had you merely asked the question, I would have answered yes, although I suspect that often he does this mostly for the purposes of a fiery discussion. One thing that Jim has never done though, is accuse me of being dishonest and lacking understanding. You box me in so that if I agree with you I'm on the correct side, and if I don't, then I am dishonest, and without understanding, which to me is a somewhat sweeter way of saying stupid.
Thanks for enlightening me.

My honesty rests on answering your question? I would not dream of answering such a question to prove my honesty. You may judge me as you wish.
