Yesterday she only peed 2 times. She has only peed one time 2day & that was @ 6:30 this morning. I even out her on the potty & nothing. No BM since last Fri. I'm worried.

I asked her Dr's office about it. They said it could be because she has been dehydrated.

Simply saying the patient is dehydrated is not enough.  Dehydration in an ill person requires medical intervention.

Does the hospice have a doctor on call?

Can your mom drink any fluids?

One daughter, I don't know what the doctors have told you about your Mom's status.  In end stage, the kidneys shut down.

Please call hospice ASAP.

It is possible that she is nearing the end of her life but as the others have said, please all hospice and discuss with the nurse.       Prayers for comfort and strength for you!

I did call Hospice. The nurse came out late afternoon yesterday. She said she heard gurgling in mama's stomache. So she doesn't think mama's impacted. Told me to increase lactulose. Once in am & at pm. Nurse said if mama doesn't pee by tonite she'll come back 2morrow & insert catheter. At 9:30 I was getting mama up from her recliner to take her to bed. Said she had to pee. And she did. Thank God no catheter tomorrow. Now if she can just go #2.

The gurgling in the "stomach" (abdomen) just gets louder when the person is impacted, until eventually bowel function ceases, due to the increase in intra-abdominal pressure causing the blood supply to the bowel to be impaired.

So, the presence of bowel sounds does not mean the person is not impacted.  An X-ray of the abdomen called KUB can make that determination.

Has Hospice done a rectal exam?

Mama's stomache is also soft.  If the lactulose doesn't work by 2nite, nurse will come back tomorrow for rectal exam.  I'm praying for my poor mama to be able to go. I don't want her to have to go thru that.

Just a thought to add, if she's not eating or drinking very much, she won't be producing very much urine or bowel movements.

Went through this with my Jack.

How much is your Mom actually eating and drinking?  Did the hospice nurse address why her oral intake has decreased?  Is this from an acute illness or the course of her dementia?  She won't produce much urine if she has little intake.

One Daughter, I just had the same issue with my mother in regards to not producing a bowel movement . I was extremely concerned that my mom may have become impacted as she had not had a BM in 13 days. Of course, I was in touch with our hospice nurse who said that her bowel sounds were normal and her stomach was soft. Additionally, Mom did not have any pain or leakage so the nurse was confident she was not impacted.

I had been dosing my mother each day for the past five days with Miralax (per Hospice advise) and Mom had a BM late yesterday.

I'm putting it down to the fact that over the past 14+ days  Mom had gone from being a bit mobile to totally bedridden, having her blood pressure and diabetes meds discontinued, and not eating or drinking nearly as much although from your posts, I think my mom is eating and drinking more than your mom is.

Definitely stay in contact with your Hospice provider ..... I for one am so glad I have them on board.

Pinky thank you for asking. She's not much better. She has peed but it's very little. Very small BM. But she's not eating or drinking hardly anything. Her walking mobility is gone. She can still stand if I pull her up & help her. I'm very thankful for that. I'm so afraid of the end. I lost my daddy last year unexpectedly, I don't know which is worst. Not knowing why he passed or watching my mama decline. It's been one sh!tty year.
