This is a video from Teepa Snow. She is perhaps the best public speaker and knower and understander of what it is liketo have dementia. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t--mkzfHuIE From the video... Dementia = Brain Failure There are 4 things true of all dementias: 1 - 2 parts of your brain are dying 2 - All dementias are chronic 3 - All dementias are progressive 4 - All dementias are fatal It is not always Alzheimer's. It is not always memory issues. Dementia covers 80-90 different conditions. If you have been dx'd with dementia you have gotten a GOOD evaluation. The evaluation was only ever a screening tool that something was going on that should be looked into more deeply. But now they are using it as a dx. Smart people can pass the eval and still have Alzheimer's. Dumb people can fail, and not have Alzheimer's. Just because you fail the test and get the dx, does not mean that you have dementia. 1 - 2 parts of your brain are dying 2 - All dementias are chronic 3 - All dementias are progressive 4 - All dementias are fatal They now say only 50%-60% of people with dementia will have Alzheimer's The new young age for young onset dementia and Alzheimer's is age 25. People with downs syndrome start forming plaques for Alzheimer's from birth. Your mom will be labeled as non compliant and that is not what she is. She is doing the best she can. She can only do things the way she has always done them. Not because she doesn't want to, but because her brain is dying.
