When I was in Egypt I came down with Noro virus. The hotel had a bidet along with the toilet.   There was a separate hose coming out of the wall with warm water that was very convenient for easy cleanup. This hose was also found in public restrooms, next to the toilet.  A set-up like this would be very useful for caregiving households.

Thanks for the information, Crushed.  I didn't realize it was so prevalent.  It certainly was beneficial to me, and easy to use.  They could be very useful in homes where there are ill and disabled people.

In my mom's modern LTC facility, every toilet is equipped with such an apparatus.

I installed a bidet (fixture) in our original home. Most visitors were puzzled and asked what it was. We now rent the house, and the tenants use it only to wash out their soiled undies.

You can also find them in some European countries, but they are an unusual sight in the US.

We installed a bidet attachment to our own toilet.  Originally purchased for my mother, I thought it prudent to give it a road test myself.  The biggest flaw is that it attached only to the cold water line.  That took some getting used to, but if you can tolerate a cold blast to the backside it is a wonderful hygiene enhancement.

No way could my mother have handled it.  There are bidet modifications that attach to hot water lines as well, but that meant a risk of accidental scalding for a person who couldn't hanfle the mix valve.  She actually had a bidet in her old house that she moved away from.  She never used it.

I love my ice-water bidet.  It's better than ten cups of coffee.

Perhaps as the boomer generation advances, these plumbing fixtures will become more popular in our country.  Since Egypt is a hot country, the water always came out warm; I had no complaints.

I have read they can increase the chance of uti in women but i am not familiar with them. How much water pressure does it send out?

I would not think they are sanitary.

Step, the water pressure was acceptable to me, not too strong.  It was like a shower hose.

Michael, I thought about that, but as long as you wipe off the nozzle and don't hold it too close to your body, it should be okay.  In a family home this should not be an issue.  When one is dealing with persistent diarrhea, as I was, something that helped me get clean was very appreciated.

Iris, I hope you feel better real soon. Saline wipes can help soothe a sore butt.  But they are not flushable.

Thanks Step, my derriere is fine now.  Jfkoc, the water temperature from the hose was very comfortable for me, about room temp or higher, because I don't like cold water.  The temp must be comfortable for sensitive areas!

I have an upcoming colonoscopy in December, and the bidet attachment will come in handy at any temperature.  Anyone who has been through the prep knows what I mean.  The procedure itself is easy, but the previous few days are cruel to the heinie.

Michael, our attachment has the water jet hidden behind a plastic flap that opens only when the water pressure opens it.  It also has a self-cleaning mode.  My younger grandson loves to turn the jet on when no one is seated and the lid is up to watch the water jet into my linen closet directly across.  Also once or twice without warning when I WAS seated.  He's still in the Will.
