I posted this on another thread but I thought the information was important enough to have its own thread so members can locate it again. 

  

These are three good references I found regarding Code 5150 in Calfornia, which allows for the involuntary psychiatric hold (committment) of a person who is a danger to self or others due to a mental health disability.  The purpose is to avoid arrest and incarceration of an ill person.

The possibility of aggression is low but we should prepare ourselves for this risk and have our family members, doctors, and everyone involved in our care know what the procedures are.
