Hi all, I was diagnosed with AD about a month ago and I would like to get a second opinion. Is it considered OK to ask for neurologist recommendations on this message board? I live in South Florida in south Palm Beach County. Thank you, and please tell me if my request is inappropriate.

Welcome Zebra. Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It is appropriate to ask for a recommendation for a neurologist amongst questions for many issues dementia related.  Please feel free to ask away. We're here to help and support you.

I'm not familiar with your area however, most would recommend a University or teaching hospital that specializes in Dementia. I'm sure other members will chime in with further or more specific recommendations for your area.

Thank you, llee. I’m considering The Alzheimer’s s research center at the University of Florida in Gainesville. I’d also like to meet with a neurologist in my area. I’m so impressed with the kindness and generosity of the people in this forum.

Welcome Zebra.  I also responded to your post on the I Have Alzheimer's board.

I obtained a second and a third opinion from dementia specialists, along with consultations from my regular doctors.   My diagnosis is cognitive impairment not otherwise specified.

It is necessary to rule out medical mimics of dementia, so a thorough medical evaluation is important.  All of this takes time.  Find the best dementia specialist you can locate who is willing to work with you.  This is an important diagnosis, and you need to feel confident that everything is being done for you.
