My DW is refusing to take her meds.  I'm thinking of grinding them up and putting them in her food and/or drink.  Has anybody had experience with this kind of thing and can offer some advice?

David, welcome to the forum. Sorry you're dealing with this. Before you grind the meds, please call a pharmacist to make sure it is okay to do that. You can call any pharmacy. If it's okay, give it a try. If it doesn't work, come back here for tips.

I found out with my husband it worked better if you didn't mix it in really smooth food.

Strawberry preserves worked really good

Hi David. Welcome. Not taking meds is a common problem for people with dementia. Sad but true. Hopefully her meds can be crushed and put into her food. Usually some type of sweet treat works best. Good luck!

I used apple sauce for my Mom.  But as Ed said, check with the pharmacist first; there are actually a few meds that are not suppose to be crushed.

Hi David and welcome.

My DH won't take his meds either......his are able to be crushed,  and

are mixed in his pudding.

Good luck,

Ricki

After checking with the doctor, my wife who can't swallow pills any more gets them crushed in apple sauce and if she doesn't swallow that I use an ice cream chaser.
