Of the prior four chat room, one was set aside only for dementia patients, so we could communicate at a slower pace. How many would be interested in using chat on this board if there was one only for dementia patients?
There already is a chat room dedicated for dementia patients at DASNI. I've used it before. There are patients from other parts of the world on DASNI.

I wouldn't mind chatting on that new message board. The more support groups the better, the only hard part is keeping up with all of them. lol

DASNI is Dementia Advocacy and Support Network International. I was not familiar with the yahoo group. I knew about DASNI from www.alztalk.org. They have a chat room dedicated to dementia patients.
John, if enough people are interested, yoiu could schedule a time to meet in chat. You can go as slow as you like.

Iris, I would be willing to try scheduled chats as we did in the past. With our small number of active members with dementia/memory symptoms, it seems important to have set times for live chat.
Even if someone has trouble responding, they can lurk to observe and jump in when they feel like it. It's great to have our own chat room so we can keep our "slow traffic" to the right in our own chat lane!
Until chats are available, the message board speed really works okay for us. It seems the caregivers often have more urgent need for feedback or answers on how to immediately proceed in a situation.
This is a good time to tell newcomers remind (& remind others) about the 24/7 helpline that is available by the Alzheimer's Assoc. Information is located on the main alz.org page and at the top of the Message Boards under "Contact Us."
Call the Helpline for any crisis or urgent need and ask for a Care Consultant. The service is available 24/7; however, on weekends you may need to leave a call back number to speak with a qualified Care Consultant who number less Fri. Pm - Sunday pm.
Helpline 1-800-272-3900.
After I typed all of that information, I think Tom has some y included some of this info at the bottom of his signature. Smart guy! I should have just referred you to him

When you talk about dementia, you are talking about a medical symptom that may or may not be AD related. Not all dementia is AD, so a dementia board would have a much wider range, in my opinion. Since the Alzheimer's Association is just concerned with Alzheimer's related dementia, I don't see how such a wide area would be good for this board.

Steve, the Alzheimer's Association is also involved with the related dementias, such as fronto-temporal lobe dementia (FTD), Lewy Body dementia, vascular dementia, Wernicke-Korsakoff dementia, Crutzfeld-Jacob dementia and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) .
