Glen Campbell Has Been Moved Into a Facility

Glen Campbell has been suffering from Alzheimer's for over three years, but the Grammy-winning singer, 78, has recently moved into a facility, PEOPLE has confirmed.

"He was moved to an Alzhemier's facility last week," says a family friend. "I'm not sure what the permanent plan is for him yet. We'll know more next week."

The "Rhinestone Cowboy" crooner first opened up about having Alzheimer's to PEOPLE in an exclusive 2011 interview.

Nothing in the TV about how he is really doing. All of us in our unique position, wish him the best. 

He was the star of last year's DC Forum. 

Later article interviewed his family and female partner of 30+ years; he had five people caring for him, but he had become a 24 hour danger to himself.

Evidently getting into everything and drinking things found in bottles, danger with kitchen knives and other dangerous incidents.  Guess it was so severe, that the family and care aides could not keep up with him to keep him totally safe.

Family states he is happy in his facility and that everyone there "loves him."

Good that he is happy; sad that this had to be.

Last year and the year before, I had the privilege of meeting and speaking with him and his family at the Forum, though last year he seemed somewhat dazed and struggling to communicate. He was sorely  missed this year. He's been a warrior for the cause!!

What can you share from the conference?

At the time it was held I was away and so missed news coverage.

Mimi, you were missed. The format remained the same, but this year there were nearly 900 persons registered. Looks like the Association may be looking for a different venue for next year.

Candy Crawley was the key note speaker. Her mother has Alzheimer's and she hinted that it runs in her family and is always keenly aware that she might one day begin to have symptoms. Dr. Monica Parker spoke about the importance of educating physicians (Yaeee!). Terry Berry shared her story of living with dementia (I forgot which type she has).

The Sargent Shriver Award - Profiles in Dignity was given to Marshall Gelfand and his daughter. He is the founder of GRFLLP, an accounting firm, and through the years he has been a great phylanthopic. His daughter is following in his footsteps. FDA Commissioner Dr. Margaret Hamburg and Alz. Ass. CEO Harry Johns discussed the latest research. I didn't hear anything new and she did not seem very confident of a cure anytime soon .

Charlie Cook of Cook Political Report, was very funny. He talked about what has been going on in Congress (nothing much). He provided many tips when meeting with our Congressional delegation.

Dr. Francis Collins from NIH spoke about research and funding (or lack there of) for research. She emphasized that the NIH is keenly aware of the reprecaustions if a cure is not found.

As in the past, the last day we headed for the Hill. The cherry blossoms were in bloom and it was sunny, but not hot. Again, it was amazing to see the sea of people all over the Senate and House buildings and the streets of the "Hill" wearing their purple sashes.

The size of the crowds and the noise has been getting to me the last few times I went. 

Even when we met with our state delegations, there were several states meeting in the same room. I often couldn't hear our own speaker because of the noise.

How was the Early Stage meeting? That has always been a highlight for me.

Myriam, Thanks for posting all the info on the Associations annual conference. My wife may retire this year so I hope we can go next year.

I was asked to put in my nomination for the Early Stage Advisory Group and I had my phone interview on Wednesday. It went pretty well but I'm not getting my hopes up because there were 27 nominees for 10 positions for the group. Even if I don't get it I'll continue speaking on behalf of the Association and to get the word out about AD.

He keeps creating new music from his life, and now the news of his becoming a danger to himself. What a beautiful voice.

I also saw B Smith on Dr Oz a couple days ago - her husband trying to fill in the blanks as Dr Oz questions her in rapid speech. It made her cry, and then I cried, then I watch the movie about Iris Murdoch IRIS and I thought, ok, this is today, even though it is raining and cold I have shelter and food and company.

Always helps me to think of the billions of people suffering in this world.
