about the possbility of dementia... she doesnt agree ..I knew she wouldnt... thats ok...she doesnt live with me.. she doesnt live inside my head... I told her that I know somethings wromg I just dont know what-I admited that when dr masih said dementia..I was surprised but... Im not fighting because well he might be right and I want toi know one way or another. She agreed that checking couldnt hurt.
I came home and was talking to a good friend who I spend ALOT of time with-more than anybody else...since my husband died. I was talking to chris and we were going throught the list on this site of waring signings of dementia or alz...I thought I had aboout 1-3 of the signs.. when I asked chris what she thought .. she thought 7 out of 10! yes I was suprised.
Soid say its worth testing me and finding out..scarey too.
I called Dr masih's office to see how they wwre doing finding a dr to do the test...they MIGHT have found one..we ll find out in a couple of days...if not..back to the drawing board.. I have to find a way to get to grand rapids or jackson, mi.
7 out of 10 wow!

she has promised to take care of me if I need it. I already have a poa for medical... I just have to ask another friend to be my poa for finacial. just to cover all bases. so I feel safer.
Can anybody tell me how long-and there maybe no answer for this-if I have the early stages (staged myself the other night off the website-again,I know I may not even have it..but I fit best understage 3.now Ill ask again, is there anyway to tell how long Ill be resonably ok? know who i am? Independant, etc ? there may not be an answer for that...and I maybe jumping the gun.. just wondered.

Violet, we're all working hard to remain where we are. That's what Best Practices is all about.
I think you are jumping the gun. You don't have a diagnosis of dementia. Remember, there are many diseases and factors that can impair your memory that might be fixable.
Try to go step by step and figure out what's going on with you.
I had 9 out of 10 of the warning signs before I first saw the neurologist. After the six hour neurocognitive testing, my diagnosis came back cognitive impairment not otherwise specified.
Don't jump the gun, so to speak. Investigate, and be thorough. Dementia or no dementia, you are wise to begin your legal protections by getting POAs for financial and healthcare. We all need to get out affairs in order and to think about our futures.
Addendum: Violet, I failed to mention that part of my diagnosis given by the neurologist is also depression. Many of the symptoms of depression overlap with cognitive impairment or early dementia. It's hard often to tell which is which. So keep this in mind.

Best of luck on your tests! I hope they find that it's much simpler than Alzheimer's.

THERE IS A WAY TO TELL HOW LONG BEOFRE YOU WILL NEED NURSING CARE AND WHEN DEATH COMES.
WILL NOT BE AVILABLE TO PUBLIC FOR 2 MORE YEARS, FOUND IT ONLINE A UNIVERSITY STUDY OF 20 YEARS LOOKING AT ATTRIBUTES OF PERSON, SIGNS OF ILLNESS AND OTHER STUFF AND THEY CAN NOW PROJECT WITHIN MONTHS HOW LONG STAGES WILL LAST AND WHEN THE END IS.
I WILL LOOK FOR LINK. BUT REMEMBER, NOTHING IS CERTAIN. SO YOU TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOURSELF, BE KIND TO OTHERS, HUMBLE YOURSELF THAT YOU ARE NOT ENTITLED TO AN ESCAPE PASS FROM DEATH OR TRAGEDY (AS YOU ALREADY KNOW) JUST BE SMART, BE TRUE TO YOUR VALUES, FORGIVE ALOT, YOUR SELF AND OTHERS, ENJOY SOMETHING EVERYDAY (EVEN A GOOD CRY CAN BE ENJOYABLE).
WE ARE ALL ONT HE SAME TRAJECTORY. MILLIONS OF US HAVE Alzheimer's, MILLIONS HEART DISEASE, CANCER, CHILDREN DIE, TEENAGERS DIE, NO ONE ESCAPES.
YOU HAVE A LOT OF STRENGTH IN HANDLING ROUGH STUFF, ADMIRE YOU. YOU GET ALL WORKED ABOUT DEMENTIA AND GET SHOT IN A MALL. JUST SAYING, THERE IS AN OPPORTUNITY HERE TO FIND PEACE AND COURAGE NO MATTER THE DIAGNOSIS. LOVE YOUR LIFE THAT IS.
UNASKED FOR ADVICE FROM SLEEPLESS ALZ+ WHO LOVES YOU.

Sorry, Iris, but I have to ask, what's a POA!

Jereo, POA stands for Power of Attorney. This is a legal document that gives someone else the power to stand for you in making decisions. There is a POA for health care, so you can continue to receive medical treatment. There are different types of POA for financial and legal matters.
If and when we get to a point where we can't take care of our own affairs, it is best to have already chosen a trusted person to handle our affairs. Otherwise a lot of problems will pile up, such as your bills won't get paid, and you might wind up being evicted or foreclosed upon and out in the street.
Usually a person who has POA is a spouse or adult child, but could be anyone whom you trust.
Here is a link to the alz.org site about POA and other legal documents:
