Yesterday, I attended an 80th birthday party for my friend's husband. He and some of his guests worked where I used to work, 40 years ago, although I did not know him or the guests at that time.
We reminisced, and discovered we knew some people in common. I was surprised that I came up with some names on my own. My memory is not all bad!

First you say you attended a birthday party, plus with people you did not know, and then remembered former connections.
You doing something different? Usually doing things is so draining - very cool!

I felt a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach when the guests started going down memory lane. But I pulled a few names out of my rabbit's hat, so it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
I've known my friend for about twenty years, and I have met some of her family at one time or another. But I don't remember any of them. Fortunately for me, other people's memories are getting bad too, because none of her family remembered me.
It was a nice party, with reminisces from when he was a little boy, and from his working days. They took photos, then we sang Happy Birthday, and ate cake.
I can say that I do believe I am sharper since I stopped using Lunesta, the sleeping pill that I was on for so many years. Right now, I am only using melatonin and Calms Forte, a homeopathic tablet, for sleep. It is not as fast acting as Lunesta, but I get to sleep every night, except when I was up all night coughing with the croup.

Iris, I'm hanging in there. Was off the boards for a while because I had a lot going on. Had prostate cancer, did the surgery, and have almost fully recovered. Feeling better now and will try to get back on the boards on a more regular basis.
God bless, Paul

I'm glad to see that you're feeling better, Paul. If it's not one thing, it's another! Take care, and we'll be looking for you back on the boards.

I'm so glad you went to the party. And were able to have conversations - good for you. Don's neurologist suggested Melatonin 3mg extended release. They are newer on the market. I will say he goes to sleep and stays asleep quite easily. Not that "drug" feeling in the mornings either.
Keep on doing what your doing, its working.

Paul...I'm sorry to hear that you were ill with prostrate cancer. Prayer said for a full recovery.
Thanks for stopping by.

Iris, *hugs* I understand. I don't have this to this extent yet but can relate. I am slow on recall. Maybe the fake it til you make/remember it can be good?

Hi
Iris L.
I
am glad to see you are off the Lunesta and on melatonin. One of my
health care providers has me on melatonin since it is a great
detoxifier for the brain.

A step in time, I decided to delete my post about not recognizing someone, because there are complications. Suffice it to say that I did not recognize someone I know on an acquaintance level.
