Does anyone know anything about this?
https://neurosciencenews.com/alzheimers-memory-electromagnetic-waves-14920/?fbclid=IwAR2cxG4wAo4OMZV8zhNgKNBnwMt6k3Dx-88svHVWsyJU-f4wPRDdbiiXXxU
The open-label study was a single center, single arm trial in eight patients 63 years of age and older with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease (AD) to evaluate the safety and initial efficacy of Transcranial Electromagnetic Treatment (TEMT). Patients were enrolled at the University of South Florida Health/Byrd Alzheimer’s Institute, which also conducted most clinical study assessments. Treatment was administered in the patient’s home by a caregiver (spouse, relative), using the MemorEM device.
Patients received TEMT for one-hour periods twice daily for two months. Although limitations of this study include the small number of subjects, not having a control group, and being of relatively short treatment duration, 120 treatments were administered in-home and the cognitive benefits observed were clinically important/meaningful at the highest levels. Providing additional credibility to the observed cognitive enhancements were the beneficial changes in AD markers in blood and CSF, as well as the enhancement in brain MRI imaging.

A biotech commentator sent me this link to the study:
https://content.iospress.com/download/journal-of-alzheimers-disease/jad190367?id=journal-of-alzheimers-disease%2Fjad190367
This one confounds me. Some electromagnetic stimulation may be good for the brain, but too much is not (the authors' claim that what they are using is safe and effective).

I don't see this holding up over the long-term, but I could certainly be wrong.

the tests also showed that their ADAS-cog score, which assesses their memory, thinking, judgment and other cognitive skills, was raised by 4 points or more in 7/8 patients.
This score is used as the gold standard for judging the efficacy of all AD treatments, and the four-point increase shows a large increase in cognitive performance which translates into clinically important improvement in mental function.
This is all the more satisfying when it is contrasted with the typical 4+ decline in this score over one year in patients with AD.
In other words, it could be interpreted as turning the clock back one whole year on the disease – a significant improvement in cognitive performance.

The Head of R & D for Biogen left to join a company called Apple Tree Partners(?). Gala Therapeutics, which is using RheOx uses a minimally invasive procedure to deliver non-thermal energy to the airways to reduce mucus-producing cells in patients with Chronic Bronchitis - If I remember it correctly Gala Therapeutics was created by Apple Tree Partners.
When will people realize that there is more to treatment than drugs, in fact, what if a cell could be influenced- the same way a drug would, but without the drug, with.... I don't know... some kind of .........magic energy that isn't light and isn't heat.
lets see ....if it can heal people by sending that energy into the cells, whether its intra-venously ( inside the vein), shining NIR light at the photoreceptors in the eyes, or into up the nasal passages. Perhaps a really far-reaching version of light could penetrate the skull itself.
Desperate people and research is starting to show that merely 'shining' light or energy at a cell can improve that cells functionality. (and this benefit travels throughout the body to wherever its needed.) Though it will probably still be faster to use light or red light or beyond red light - near the brain, rather than by aiming that energy up an AD sufferer's bottom, as someone once suggested.
I was reading a study on the effect of electromagnetic waves on the brain, researchers expected to see an increase in blood flow to specific areas of the brain. But the increase of blood flow itself was negligible, what they did see was that theta waves increased.
Much has been written about Gamma waves, this researcher suggested that Theta waves are the waves the brain uses to communicate within itself, these waves bring all the communication together in the way that creates meaning or understanding (awareness of the thought in a larger context.
I should probably break this down into a few topics, add and verify my research. For now, please take it with a large grain of salt.
Oh, and even though their R&D guy left for a partly bio-medical tech company, (people do like to move up in their careers, get more responsibility and better titles)
- I still have a strong suspicion that Biogen is onto something. With past critics saying they spend too much time trying to narrow a trial down to only the sub-group of people it can help - I wouldn't be surprised if they have found something that only works for people with a particular gene. Once they can identify who it would help, ta-daaa, you have genetically customized medicine. But this is purely my speculation.
And I will say it again, It should only be a matter or time; until scientist can separate the useful parts of the drug from the harmful parts, or modify the delivery to penetrate the BBB, while sparing the other organs.
Rant Over.

It always amazes me how much information regarding potentially effective treatments for Alzheimer's disease either get ignored or are summarily dismissed. I blame this in part on how various pharmaceutical companies, research scientists, funding organizations, etc. want so desparately to treat this disease with a drug.

Transcranial Pulse Stimulation (TPS®) in Alzheimer’s Disease
Applied knowledge in neurology – The TPS® method of action
The key mechanism induced by TPS® is mechanotransduction. The stimulation of growth factors, primarily VEGF3,4,
not only improves cerebral blood flow, but also promotes the formation
of new blood vessels (angiogenesis) and nerve regeneration. An
additional effect is the release of nitric oxide (NO)5, which leads to direct vasodilation and improved blood circulation.
TPS® enables targeted stimulation of cerebral regions.
Biological effects of TPS®
- Mechanotransduction6
- Increase in cell permeability7
- Stimulation of mechanosensitive ion channels6
- Release of nitric oxide (NO)5, which leads to vasodilation, increased metabolic activity and angiogenesis and has an anti-inflammatory effect
- Stimulation of vascular growth factors (VEGF)3,4
- Stimulation of BDNF8
- Migration and differentiation of stem cells4,6
TPS® can stimulate deep cerebral regions, reaching as much as 8 cm into the brain. Owing to the short duration of the TPS®
stimulation, tissue heating is avoided. The pulses applied to the
treatment area thus develop their maximum clinical effectiveness. TPS®
treatment is performed through the closed skull. The patient is not
immobilized during the treatment and able to move freely. TPS®
treatment has been shown to significantly improve CERAD test
performance and to reduce Beck’s depression index in patients with mild
to moderate dementia. Over 1500 treatments have already been performed
using the NEUROLITH® system.
Advantages of TPS®
- 6 treatment sessions in 2 weeks
- Outpatient treatment (30 minutes/session)
- Painless and without side effects
- Personalized treatment based on MRI data
- Adjuvant cognitive training not required
- Shaving of the scalp not required
- No immobilization of the patient during treatment
BodyTrack® – Treatment documentation in real time
Real-time tracking of the handpiece position enables automatic
visualization of the treated regions. The use of personalized MRI data
allows specific characteristics of the patient’s brain to be taken into
account. Every time the handpiece position changes, the visualization of
the target regions in the loaded MRI scans is automatically updated.
The energy applied is highlighted in colour. The BodyTrack® software is a unique tool for the visualization and control of the TPS® pulses applied and of treatment progress.
Real-time visualization of TPS® treatment
Advantages of the BodyTrack® software
- Use of personalized MRI data
- Visualization of MRI data in 3 planes (axial, coronal, sagittal)
- Coloured visualization of the treatment region
- Real-time visualization of TPS® pulse distribution
- Continuous visualization and documentation of the energy applied and of treatment progress
NEUROLITH® – The perfect solution to facilitate Alzheimer’s treatment
NEUROLITH® – an innovative system with convincing design features! The special ergonomic shape of the TPS®
handpiece minimizes hand fatigue to facilitate treatment working
directly on the patient. The coupling surface adapts easily to any shape
of head, making the treatment with focused pulses simple and efficient.
The NEUROLITH® software includes patient management functionalities with retrievable data and recommended treatment parameters.
3D camera with patient and handpiece position detection / Calibration probe and tracking glasses with markers / TPS® handpiece with markers
Advantages of the NEUROLITH®
- Focused stimulation of deep cerebral regions
- Personalized 3D visualization of patient’s head
- 3D infrared camera system for precise cerebral tracking
- USB interface for MRI data import
- Patient database

How Our Non-Invasive Electroceutical® Therapies Work:
Pulsed Electromagnetic Field-based (PEMF) Electroceuticals® which
use a changing electromagnetic field to deliver electrical stimulation
to tissues via induction function by accelerating the production of the
endogenous constitutive nitric oxide synthesis systems (cNOS or eNOS):
the anti-inflammatory system.
Nitric
oxide (NO) is an essential molecule involved in several physiological
and pathological processes within the mammalian body. NO is synthesized
by nitric oxide synthase (NOS) which oxidizes a guanidine nitrogen of
L-arginine releasing nitric oxide in the form of a free radical and
citrulline.
Three
isoforms of the NOS have been identified: endothelial (eNOS or NOS-3),
neuronal (nNOS or NOS-1), and inducible (iNOS or NOS-2) – each with
separate functions. The neuronal enzyme (NOS-1) and the endothelial
isoform (NOS-3) are calcium-dependent and produce low levels of gas as a
cell signaling molecule. The inducible isoform (NOS-2) is calcium
independent and produces large amounts of gas which can be cytotoxic.
Nitric
oxide thus generated acts as a messenger in diverse functions including
vasodilation neurotransmission, anti-tumor and anti-pathogenic
activities. Sufficient levels of NO production are necessary in
protecting an organ such as the heart, brain, or liver from ischemic
damage. NO dilates blood vessels, raising blood supply and lowering
blood pressure. Nitric Oxide is also an immune effector, producing an
anti-inflammatory effect at physiological levels.
In
1992, for its importance in neuroscience, physiology, and immunology,
nitric oxide was proclaimed the “Molecule of the Year”. The 1998 Nobel
Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded for discovering nitric
oxide’s role as a cardiovascular signalling molecule. Over a century
after their medical introduction, the organic-nitrate pharmaceuticals,
including nitroglycerine and amyl nitrite, were identified as precursors
of nitric oxide.

The worse the memory of the older people in Reinhart’s study, the more that alternating-current stimulation improved it. But even in younger adults with good memory, “we are seeing boosts in brain and behavior measures,” he said about unpublished results. “I think it is possible to turbocharge” their memory, too.

TEMT has been around for a few years for drug resistant depression with fair results. When research first started showing positive results with Alzheimer's patients insurers became concerned people with AD would start using it for their "depression" when in reality it was being used to treat their dementia. My current insurer and my previous insurer both approve TEMT for treatment of depression UNLESS there is a concurrent Alzheimer's diagnosis. Then TEMT is denied categorically. You see, we can't be spending money on a safe, effective, drug free, non-invasive treatment that may be able to treat two disabling health problems at once. No-No-No- we need to make sure the cost is pushed off on the formulary (medication) portion of the insurance. They can then control costs by refusing to cover all those expensive drugs.

I just read that some flowers are buzz - pollinated. Its actually the hum produced by the bees (wings?) that triggers a reaction to release pollen from the plant.
Scientists have replicated pollen release with a tuning fork.
