The first anniversary of Sandy's death is just five days away.

I've been writing this poem off and on since she died and I guess it's a fitting eulogy for her life and our life together.

                                                              LONELINESS

It’s there in the smell of death’s remains.

I left the room as I could not breathe.

She said goodbye but she wanted to stay.

Her body took two weeks to leave

……………………………………………………………………..

Thirteen years from the day we met

Went by in the wink of an eye.

In year number seven the doctor said

She needed to prepare to die.

………………………………………………………………………

She forgot her birth and she forgot her name

And she forgot how to read and write.

And though she forgot she had a mate,

He stayed for the rest of her life.

We thought we’d cross the universe together,

But Time said, “No, she has to leave today.”

She said goodbye and closed her eyes forever

And Time left me alone to find my way.

When she said goodbye and closed her eyes,

I thought it was just to sleep.

When she said goodbye, I had to realize

She was forever leaving me.

Very touching and a sad poem, but beautifully expressed.  A tribute of your love on your dear wife's death anniversary. Hugs to you and take care!
