I used to love that song. Now it is so painful to listen to I didn't make it to the end. I tell my grandchildren to try to love the one their with a little more each day. Tell them as often as you can how much they mean to you.

I somehow missed this when you posted it. The answer to your question as far as I'm concerned is YES, wouldn't have to think about it. There are so many songs that say how we feel. I never heard this one, it was nice.
Take care of yourself.

Thank you.
David Gates' father died in 1963. When he became famous with the group Bread in the early 70s, he wrote the song as a tribute to his father.
My wife and I enjoyed singing karaoke in public venues.
The last year of her life when the neurologist told me she was at stage 7, I started singing this to her on stage. It was my way of begging TPTB to take any thing in return for her health being restored.

I've always loved this song. Had no idea it was about his Dad. Thanks Army Vet.

You're welcome.
I've found these songs about loss and grief to be very therapeutic in helping me understand and process my own feelings.
I've been posting them in hopes they're helping others on this forum.
