Hi Everyone!
My name is Courtney and I lost my grandmother a year ago to Alzheimer's. I am a current medical student and we were challenged to connect with a support group. Of course this platform spoke to me after I saw how Alzheimer's affect my grandmother the past 7-10 years.
I also worked as a Nursing Assistant in two nursing homes. One where I was specifically in a memory care facility, so I have a lot of experiences working with people diagnosed with Alzheimer's and Dementia.
The last 2 years when my grandmother was in a memory care facility of her own, she had her ups and down. She no longer recognized me and did not say I love you when I would say it to her. This disease is particularly hard to handle when your loved ones no longer know who you are.
I would love to offer up any advice or answer any questions you have! Working as a Nursing Assistant, I know a lot of tips for how to make the transition into a memory care facility go smoothly.
Please comment if you have any comments/questions!
With Love,
Courtney

I'm sorry your dear grandmother is gone. She may not have said she loved you back during her late stage, but I know she loved you. We can only see the frozen outside of a person with dementia, but their inside may be filled with love for their families.
You posted your generous offer to give advice and tips about Alz on a board where we have already lost our loved ones. Why don't you write a post on the Caregiver forum, too. Many people there could benefit from your experiences. I wish you well in your studies. Good luck!
