My Father 96 RIP and Mother 86 have always been able to remember lyrics and tunes of folk songs we used to play and sing when I was a child growing up in the 1960's. They remember many details of their own childhoods. Every brain cell matters, especially as they dwindle.

The few years before my dad passed, his memories of anything concerning his childhood were completely lost. My mom, who lived to 94, could recall most everything in her life, including the events that had shaped the lives of her 5 kids.

When my Barbara developed dementia, most of her early years seemed to fade away, for which I was grateful, as the first 1/3 of her life had never been a pleasant experience. By the end of her life, all she could remember was that she loved me. What a blessing that was !
