Dad has been in Assisted Living for 4 months, and has been refusing the blood draw technicians.
We tried a new strategy today and we were successful! We met Dad while he was eating breakfast. We asked if he wanted to go for a ride after breakfast. When we got him in the car, we told him that we would go for coffee, but we had to run an errand first. He kept asking about it. When we got there, we all went inside. He got kind of nervous, like "this has nothing to do with me??". I told him to come in with us and then when we got him in the room, I told him that we were all going to get blood drawn. He was not happy, but he complied. He didn't want to pee in a cup either, but I told him to just go in and try. He gave a few drops.
Afterwards we went to coffee shop for coffee and muffin, which put him into a good mood. We are sure that he has forgotten all about it, now that the bandage has come off. When we got back, he was very happy that it was a nice ride!!
