This morning was the culmination of a lifelong desire for my grandmother Laurette! She was the 9th of 10 children, and every one of her brothers whistled. Her husband whistled, and then all of her children whistled. She could never learn and always wished she could. Somehow, after 80 years of trying, she got it to work this morning!
It was probably one of the best mornings she's had in years. She was laughing constantly and they weren't chuckles, they were deep belly laughs. She was whistling to the cat, whistling while washing dishes, whistling cat calls at me, she wouldn't stop!
An hour later she had forgotten how to do it, and who knows if she'll ever find that magic way of holding her lips again. But she was so PROUD of herself, and she kept saying "It's never too late to learn!" Hearing those words and laughs coming from a largely non-functional lady with AD was awesome.
