Iris, you had asked me to make you an avatar on one of the other forums ... and I did, and posted it on that thread, but that thread has disappeared off the first page. If you still want the avatar, the link is below.

Thank you so much, JAB. I looked for that post but I couldn't find it again. You had posted direction on how to upload the avatar on other pages, so I'll look for those pages now.

I must admit, JAB, I'm at a loss as to how to get this uploaded. I searched for the directions on other threads but couldn't find them. Can you send new directions please?

I'm working from a Mac, so there may be slight differences if you're using a PC.
NOTE: you can ask the Moderators to upload it for you.
Click on the link in my first post, which says "Iris v2.jpg"
That should show a single page, which is the avatar.
Use your browser's "save
page as" to save it to your computer. You need to know where you're
saving it...
Now, at the very top of this page there's "Logged in as: Iris L edit profile"
Click on "edit profile"
This brings up a page with six tabs.
Click on "Story". (On my computer, there's a glitch on this page.
It loads continuously. So I have to click on the browser's "stop
loading" button to get any of the tabs to work.)
When you're on the "Story" page, you see a green button "Upload Profile Photo"
Click on that. A little box opens. Click on "Browse"
That
should open a directory of the files on your computer. Locate the avatar jpeg
you just downloaded, click on it, and click "open" (or double-click the
jpeg to open it)
You should now see a string of letters and slashes in the little box next to the browse button.
Click the green "upload" button.
That should do it.
If it doesn't, tell us where in this list you got stuck.

Hi, JAB, thank you for the detailed instructions. They were easy for me to follow. Unfortunately my computer was not so easy to please. My computer got hung up at the green "upload" button. It said: "not a valid jpeg/gif image. I tried several times, but no go.  What to do next?

Hmmm... very strange.
One possibility ... when you saved it, did it have ".jpeg" or ".jpg" in the name? I.e., does it say "Iris v2.jpg" or just "Iris v2"?
Maybe it doesn't like the name I gave it. iMacs aren't nearly as fussy as PCs. I've attached another file with a different name, maybe that will work.
If it doesn't ... what kind of computer and operating software do you have?

Dear JAB, I tried to upload again and was stopped at the same point. The file is saved as a "bitmap" file. I tried to change it to jpeg or jpg but the computer would not allow that. I have a Compac desktop computer with Windows XP. I'm going to post a query on the Website Issues board and try to search in the internet for a solution. Thanks again for your help.

Iris---Maybe I can help
TO GET YOUR AVATAR ON YOUR COMPUTER
Click on the link in JAB’s post "Iris v2.jpg"
Make certain that what you click on is
the BLUE type that is directly under the words File Attachments on JABS
post---
This should open a new window (or tab)---You should see your avatar—It reads

While you see your avatar---Find the word FILE (it is toward the
top left of your screen) and click on it
Choose the option SAVE PAGE AS
Another window should open---
Your cursor is probably in the box beside File Name—Manually type in a
name that is different than the text that appears in the box (That way
it will be easier for you to find later)
Under that box and next to the words “Save As Type” Choose JPEG Image (f this is not a choice and there are only a few write down what they are so that you can post them on this thread and then select cancel and go no further.
Go to the top of that very window to the box beside the words “Save in”
and select DESKTOP
Click on the word SAVE
To confirm that the file is there you can go to your desktop (the screen with
all of the icons that you see when you turn on your computer)- look for a box
with the file name
TO INSTALL YOUR AVATAR ON OUR SITE
Go to our site…Make certain you are logged in
Click on "edit profile"
This brings up a page with six tabs.
Click on "Story".
When you're on the "Story" page, you see a green button "Upload
Profile Photo"
Click on that. A little box opens. Click on "BROWSE"
In the “Look in”
area Select DESKTOP
Go down that list and find the
file with the same name you gave your avatar … click on it, and click "OPEN"
You should now see a string of letters and slashes in the little box next to
the browse button.
Click the green "UPLOAD" button.
After your new Avatar appears on your profile screen – click UPDATE

Thank you for the tip to upload to Desktop, Cherie. When I tried to save in My Pictures, only "bitmap" is allowed as a file type. I tried left clicking, right clicking and deleting, but I could not get it out of bitmap. When I tried to upload from the Desktop, I still get an error message which says : "not a valid jpeg/gif image" The problem is the computer only allows me to save as "bitmap" type. Is this correctible? Cheryle is also trying to help me.

Iris, it shouldn't matter that you're saving it to My Pictures, but do back to the other board and see if the second set of instructions I posted helps!

SUCCESS! I finally got it!

I found how to convert "bitmap" to jpg file type using MS Paint. I found this on wikihow: http://www.wikihow.com/Convert-BMP-to-JPEG-Using-Microsoft-Paint
(I never heard of bitmap before, anyway.)
