I went to a presentation this afternoon at the MS Support Group.  The presentation was about the Beauty Bus, which provides free beauty services for chronically or terminally ill men women and children with certain diseases.  They will do hair styling, haircuts, electric shave, facials, makeup application, manicure and pedicure.

They provide services to patients with the following conditions: ALS, cancer, muscular dystropy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson't disease, spinal cord injuries, stroke, other neuromuscular and motorneuron conditions and their caregivers.

All of the services are free and in the home.  They provide all the materials.

The drawback?  I asked specifically if they serve people with memory impairment.  She said, "Due to our funding we don't serve that population."  Otherwise, this would be perfect for some of our members who cannot easily leave the home for beauty service.

If one of our members has one of the qualifying medical conditions, it might be of interest.

Sounds as though a group needs to have a conversation with the board of the organization. It's a wonderful idea. And at the final stage where many dementia patients could use the services, man of them certainly neuro-muscular problems, one just has to b e a bit creative, may be, to make the criteria fit the situation.

You're right, Mimi.  I posted the link so anyone who is interested in negotiating with them can try.  Many of our members have multiple diagnoses.
