This is what I heard on a vey clear day (l out the past 5-6). as I was putting my spouse to bed this evening and changing his brief. He doesn't exhibit signs of pain in the groin area (no touching, grimacing, or indications of pain.) The Hospice RN was here today, and she did not detect any unusual signs either. There does not appear to be any swelling or abnormal appearance either.

I can't quite decide whether to take this seriously, or to chalk it up to dementia. He has not mentioned anything like this prior to today.

Has anyone else experienced this??? He has had an elevated PSA level for the past 5 years, but not hugely so.

You know the person better then any one else I hope. Did this person always complain about issues and if not and the pain is still there now medical seek help. Even if they were a complainer I believe it still needs to be ruled out as an issues.

I have many strange things happen to me in the last year alone that come and go. Luckily for me my wife always able to see them as she is a medical person. Just as quick as they came they are gone after days and have no idea why they occurred. If doctor would have seen me each time they would have though I am a crazy person because the issue would go away by the time they saw me.

It could just be the way they are sleeping as it requires some shifting at times. That what fears me the most when I many not know to do those types of things as who will know to do it. Who flips my people multiple times in the night as I do today. All scary to one like him. He may be uncomfortable but not even be able to know what he must do to make himself better. It does happen with me at different levels of thinking. Can not tie together to separate related issues. I can tell you more privately. Now I see why some may not want to use there name.

If everything seems to be normal-the next step may be to think about referred pain. I looked it up and read this: http://www.osteoworks.co.nz/Conditions/Adults/Groin+and+Testicular+Pain.html

I hope it was just a one time incident and he is OK.

If you are still concerned after Hospice RN seen him, you could request Hospice MD to make a visit. My dad did not suffer from dementia but had other serious medical problems, was on hospice for 8 months and I trusted the hospice RN completely. She did call in the hospice md when she felt it was necessary.

With my father, as his ability to articulate things he wanted to say declined, he often interchanged words or the thought/expression/idea came out in some other strange form.

For pop, he had to wear adult diapers and he would sometimes complain about various things. A few times he said a phrase not too far off from what your husband said. The first time after thoroughly checking him, I chalked it up to a momentary thing.

After the second time a few days later however, I spent about 3 hours trying to determine what may have made him say it. In the end, what I found was he was trying to express that he was very warm/hot down there, basically because wearing adult diapers under his very lightweight pants trapped a lot of heat.

He just couldn't find a way to say that, so he said a couple phrases very similar to your husband, none of which had anything to do with heat, but rather pain in that specific area.

I had almost given up but the breakthrough came in the shower. He was sitting on the chair I had set-up in the for him and had a smile. This wasn't super unusual, but I decided to ask him if the "pain" had gone away and he said "yea, it's much better, I like this here". He was motioning to the water. I tested the temperature and it was cooler than usual but he was enjoying it.

So I decided to try a little experiment and turned the temperature up warmer some (nothing near "too hot"/etc) and asked him about that. He said he liked it the other way and that any more and it would hurt like when he was walking around.

That was a huge accidental link that I had stumbled on. I ended up finding some very lightweight shorts and got him used to wearing those which helped.

I am not saying this is the case for your husband, but, in our case I had to do some creative detective work to decipher what dad meant sometimes.

Oh my and a big OUCH! Does he still complain or was it a "temporary" state of affairs?

If only temporary, the most likely scenario would be that his diaper is either constricting his scrotum, or he may need some "adjustment" down there if the diaper fabric may be pinching or dragging on him. If the diaper is removed and he stops complaining, that would probably have been it. Or; was he in a position that caused painful pressure on that area of his anatomy?

Tess gave a good link and here is another one with some more information:

http://www.mayoclinic.org/symptoms/testicle-pain/basics/causes/SYM-20050942

As the Mayo article states, if he had an onset of severe, unrelenting pain; it is may be an emergency matter.

I so hope he is feeling more comfortable today and we have all learned more about this topic than we knew before!

Thanks for the responses. He almost never complains, and hasn't said anything further today about the issue. I will keep an "eye" on it and make sure the briefs are not pinching etc. He has been only wearing the diaper type of disposable briefs and no other layers due to the warmer temps. So it was a a really odd/unusual thing for him to say,. He is mostly non-verbal.

I bet it was just a temporary thing that he would have unconsciously adjusted before. If it keeps up though...

You are, however, now in 1st place for the topic title of the month award... Lol.

Folks, and especially so to the female members.

Men will often have insufficient space to handle their equipment due to sitting, laying, or walking positions. An aid in omitting the temporary pinching or pressing dull pain can be an adjustment of equipment by merely reaching for the equipment and placing it slightly to another position. This will be an aid in eliminating what was an uncomfortable or slight pain inducing position of the equipment.

When placing Depends upon the male patient try to allow for sufficient space for equipment by not placing the Depends in an upward, tight fit. ☺
