Can Alzheimer's Be Prevented? on 60 Minutes
60 Minutes showed a program about an extended family with genetic young onset Alzheimer's Disease. The family tree goes back generations. Scientists have discovered the defect in a single gene. Their approach now is to see if drug therapy in the preclinical years can stop or delay the development of the disease. Here is a link to 60 Minutes Overtime, where you can see the entire segment.

I view with great skepticism any "research" or article that claims there is a way to prevent dementia. I do believe that a life style such as we tout on these boards, called Best Practices, will possibly delay the onset or if the disease has already begun, slow down the progression of the disease.
