I Have Alzheimer’s or Another Dementia
Any possibilities against FTD available?
Dear all, I have read some articles about Kurkuma.
Does this help against my bvFTD?
Welcome, Josef. I hope that Kurkuma/curcumin can help.
Most of the studies on curcumin focus on Alzheimer's disease and most of the efforts are focusing on developing ways to increase its absorption into the bloodstream. Even without the latter, curcumin does seem to improve some aspects of Alzheimer's disease.
Ferulic acid in rice bran oil and Angelica archangelica (Feru-guard) has shown some initial success in the treatment of frontotemporal lobe dementia.
Treatment with Feru-guard led to decreased scores on the Neuropsychiatric Inventory in 19 of 20 patients and significantly decreased the score overall. The treatment also led to significantly reduced subscale scores on the Neuropsychiatric Inventory ("delusions", "hallucinations", "agitation/aggression", "anxiety", "apathy/indifference", "irritability/lability" and "aberrant behavior"). There were no adverse effects or significant changes in physical findings or laboratory data.
Feru-guard may be effective and valuable for treating the behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia in frontotemporal lobar degeneration and dementia with Lewy bodies.
A much larger study of Feru-guard for dementia (although primarily for Alzheimer's disease) is now underway.
Maybe depending on the outcome of the trial, Feru-guard will become much easier to attain. Now it is mainly available only with the approval of doctors in Japan, although one company--Rakuten--appears to distribute it globally.
Best wishes to you.
My non-scientific two cents. Sure. use it. Don't expect miracles. But, each little thing helps.
