Has anyone heard of a general rule that we should not look a dementia patient in the eye.
I can see there may be times for diverting our eyes and times we should look them in the eye. I have not heard of a reason we should never look them in the eye. Let me know if there is something I have missed.
I think it depends on what the person preferred pre-dementia! Some people feel uncomfortable when people look them in the eye when communicating. Others, like myself, prefer to hav people look directly at me while communicating. It helps me to feel like the person is more interested in me. So far in my dementia progession, i still like people looking me in the eye. Now, if i was having delusions or hallucinations, that mite be another story...
